A QUILT SHOW BY A GUILD IN SALEM, OR

Last Friday (already a week ago?) I went to a quilt show held by a large guild and was not disappointed at all.  There were so many wonderful quilts that I can't possibly show you all the ones that were amazing, but here are most of the ones I liked best.

This is the one I would have voted as my favorite (if I hadn't forgotten to put the vote in the box).

These next 2 quilts were displayed as quilts that were in prior shows.

This blue & green one is made up of scraps.  She was sewing colored scraps together and then decided to put them together like this.  A great idea!  I think I might start sewing scraps together in colors and see what happens.

This cat quilt is adorable!

This is a table runner and if you look closely you can see the quilting depicts smoke coming out of the chiminys.

This star quilt is amazing and I love it, but I wouldn't want to make it.

Don't you just love going to quilt shows?  The beauty is so uplifting and just makes one want to keep quilting, doesn't it?  I think I need to slow down my quilting for a while so I can work on my family history, which I have been trying to do but I keep having things to sew.

I have been planting a lot of flowers around my house.  Last year I tried growing flowers from seed and I have given up on that.  So this year I'm buying plants already blooming.  My first ever poppy is blooming!  My walking friend and I had loved some poppies that we walked past a couple years ago.  We took some seeds and planted them.  This year one of her seeds sprouted!  But I haven't seen any poppies come up from the seeds I planted.  Ugh.  This is 2 views of the one I purchased.  There is another bud coming soon.

Thanks for visiting!

A QUILT SHOW AND "GETTING THERE"

Last week I went to the Willamette Valley Quilting Festival in Albany, Oregon.  I didn't take very many pictures because my phone battery was very low.  My friend and I had a very good time!

This first quilt won the best of show award and is super beautiful!!

This next quilt is the just like the quilt that my Mom made for me as a wedding gift!  I was so surprised to see it.  My Mom loved to embroider and do cross stitching.  I picked out the pattern and she did all the cross stitching.  She had the ladies of Eastern Star hand quilt it.  It will be 58 years old in August and has survived a lot of wear and tear.

This quilt was made with all Australian fabric.

This was a simple wall hanging and I loved the fabric and quilting design on it.

Another section of the same quilt.

I just loved this zebra quilt!  Very striking!

Description from the Zebra quilt.

I had to take a picture of this quilt.  I hope you can read the various element descriptions.  Very creative!

I love this quilt.

And last, but not least, here is how my "barn" quilt is coming.  I am almost finished with the top!  I had planned to use a border fabric, but realized that I don't have enough of it, so I'm adding a scrappy row of fabric and then a wider border of the brown background fabric.

On Tuesday I had a gum transplant (called free gingival graft) in a section of my mouth and it is so painful because the dentist took a part of the roof of my mouth to sew onto the area where my gum was not growing back after the oral surgery I had.  This has been more painful than the actual surgery that I had before because the roof of the mouth is very sensitive and doesn't heal very fast.  It seems to hurt more now than it did a few days ago.  I can hardly eat anything so I'm mostly eating jello, milk toast, macaroni and cheese and small pieces of chicken.  I'm not starving, but it is frustrating.  Trying to keep the food on one side of the mouth isn't easy.

WILLAMETTE VALLEY QUILT FESTIVAL, ALBANY, OREGON

Last week I went to Albany (about 40-50 miles south) Oregon to this quilt show.  It is the 2nd annual show that they have put on and it was very impressive!

Here are the best pictures that I took of the quilts that I liked the most.  I won't say much as there are quite a few of them.  Enjoy!

The next one received a blue ribbon and was made by Lynette Horn, a friend from my quilt guild.

This was my favorite quilt!

It was a wonderful show with lots of great vendors as well!

QUILT SHOW AT THE GREAT OREGON STEAM-UP, BROOKS, OREGON

Yes, the Great Oregon Steam-Up is an event held at the Powerland Heritage Park in Brooks, Oregon, and yes, there is a quilt show there.  At this event, antique steam engine tractors are powered up.  Also, a saw mill powered by steam is demonstrated along with many events such as tractor pull contests.  Plus much, much more!  I didn't see much of that part because I was a vendor at the quilt show which was held in the  new Truck Museum (air-conditioned)!  The quilt show was added to the event to have something special for the women who came with their husbands.

Here are some of the quilts.

There was a Quilt of Valor booth there too.

Here's a picture of one of the many steam powered pieces of equipment that were on display and demonstrated.

The wood in the back will be burned to produce the steam.
Thousands of people came to this event and some of them came into the quilt show exhibit.  Of course, lots of men are fascinated with the old equipment, but it's intriguing for children and women as well!
