A Week with Jonah

We spent a wonderful week with our DS, DIL and new grandson, Jonah!  He is such a sweetheart!  We are so thankful for the birth of a healthy baby.  Here he is wrapped up in the airport quilt I made him.  Mom & Dad didn't get a lot of sleep, but they are having to feed him more often until he gets back to his birth weight.  We can't wait to see him again when they come to visit on their way to their new home at the end of the month.  It will be fun to see how he has grown and changed.
I had some spare time (between cooking & doing dishes) to do some quilting.  I got this charity quilt quilted.  Now I just need to put the binding on.  I also worked on some stitchery while traveling back & forth and some paper piecing for my grandmother's flower garden lap quilt that I am working on.
Today it was back to the grindstone.

  4. Beautiful baby, I know how proud you must be. The quilt looks great as well. I also like your charity quilt. When I get home, I plan to do some charity quilting, so far haven't done that and I am sure it is so gratifying. I love the name, Jonah, and Scott goes perfect with that, perfect name for a perfect baby! To answer your email question, yes I machine appliqued his name, but won't try that again, I did not enjoy doing that, nor did I feel that it was a very good job. But it will do, and I am sure I will make him another quilt when I get home. Bobbin

  9. Congratulations on the birth of your grandson. I am expecting my first grandchild in October and am busy sewing up a storm although I'm not sure my quilts will be as beautiful as yours.

I work for my county's public health department and wanted to recommend putting this precious baby on his "back to sleep." It may not be the way a lot of us put our babies to sleep, but the research is clear that many fewer babies die of SIDS (crib death) when they are places on their backs. See http://www.nichd.nih.gov/sids/

  10. I'm a surfing the web. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I disagree with Momma Brett. Babies who sleep on their backs don't get deep sleep (on an EEG, electronencephalogram, this is called slow wave sleep). Slow wave sleep is the most restorative form of sleep. They change the rules on all these things every couple of years and say this way or that ways best. But, I think it's clear that the healthies way an infant can sleep is on it's stomach. Babies sleep much sounder on their stomachs, don't get flat head syndrome, don't get torticollis, and have much stronger upper body muscles and learn faster. Best of Luck!

  11. I'm having to resort to leaving a comment on my own blog because of the two anonymous comments I received about how Jonah is sleeping. First, I do appreciate your concern and the information. Jonah really wasn't sleeping on his stomach, he was on his side and the position was a photo op to get pictures of him with the quilt I made. He was sleeping, but it was right in front of us. He usually sleeps on his back because that is what all the experts seem to say nowadays.

The 6/18/08 comment is very interesting and kind of confirms what I was thinking, but not voicing. We always put our babies on their tummy to sleep and it doesn't seem to make sense that sleeping on their tummy is what causes SIDS. I think I'll try to do a little research on this. I really wish people would leave their email address so I could respond to their comments.

    Kind regards,
    Ruth
