NORTHWEST QUILTERS QUILT SHOW IN PORTLAND, OR - warning - lots of pictures

On May 12, I attended the Festival of Quilts in Portland, Oregon and I am finally getting around to sharing some photos from it.  I entered 2 of my quilt into the show.

This quilt, The Eagle, was made for my DS because he is a pilot.  Actually, I made 2 of these quilts because I also have another son who is a pilot.  Talk about a glutton for punishment!  You really can't see it here, but the alternating blocks each have an eagle hand embroidered on them.

Here are some close-up photos of the quilt that show more detail for those who have never seen it before.  There are 10 eagles per quilt and I embroidered 20 of them before I started any piecing.

The border words are the call letters that pilots use to identify their airplane's number.  I used the book "Word Play Quilts" by Tonya Ricucci for making the letters.  I don't think I could have done it without that book.

The second quilt that I entered in the show was "Baskets of Blue" which you can see in the center of my header picture.

So, now, on to some of the many gorgeous quilts in the show!

This is a T-shirt quilt that I just loved!  The T-shirts are from various national parks and I love the animal pictures on them.

Selvedge outfit.
I tried to get pictures of all the tags on each quilt, but unfortunately, a lot of those were blurry so I didn't include the attribution.

See how the hexes have been fussy cut?  All of them in the middle row of each block are like that!!

Multnomah Falls, OR

Kind of blurry, but it was so bright it's almost like it is lit up!

This is an antique pickle dish quilt made in 1870 that I just loved!

Of course, there were lots more and I didn't have time to take pictures of all of them, but this gives you an idea!

ROUND ROBINS REVEALED

At my last quilt guild meeting, after Lori gave her presentation,  the round robins were passed out as this was our last meeting until September.  I didn't get pictures of all of them, but below are a few.  We are always amazed at how good they turn out.  The person who made the medallion in the center gets the finished top back.

This last one is mine.  I made the center medallion with CW reproduction fabric and included some of the same fabrics in the bag.  So now all I have to do is quilt it!

I've been busy working on some craft show items, but in between that and other household chores, I made 2 of the Moda Block Head blocks.

Week 8

Week 9
I also made one triangle for my Dear Jane quilt as I had the fabric already picked out and it was ready to go.

Thanks for visiting!

HUMBLE QUILTS COMES TO McMINNVILLE, OR

Yesterday, Lori from Humble Quilts came to give a presentation on seasonal quilts at my quilt guild, Piecemakers, in McMinnville, OR!  We were thrilled to have her there!

Lori DeJarnatt
I first became acquainted with Lori through blogging, probably followed a link from someone else's blog and this was about around 2009 or so.  I arranged to meet her in 2010 when we were visiting my BIL, who lives close to her.  I also have seen her a couple times at the Sisters Quilt Show and at Aurora Colony in Aurora, OR.

Lori explained why her blog is called Humble Quilts - it's because she loves antique quilts and especially loves how women "made do" with what they had, which meant that they had to use different fabrics because they ran out of the one they were using or a panel was too long, so they just chopped it off in the middle of a block, etc.  Mistakes were left in giving it more character and you don't have to be ashamed of them.

Her trunk show was awesome as you will see below:

Made to commemorate her trip to Denmark

She got the pattern from American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine

Flags of the American Revolution designed by Jan Patek (I'm making one of these)

Panel of George Washington was a gift from a friend.

The back of George Washington's quilt has a Martha Washington block on it.

Lori designed this Jubilee quilt for her 50th birthday.
Doesn't this just make you want to get busy sewing?  It does for me.  Lori had a story behind each quilt and some of the pictures didn't turn out, so I couldn't post them - there were quite a few more than this.  I'm trying to decide which one is my favorite, but would have to pick at least 5 or 6 "favorites."

Another bonus was some visitors that came, two of whom told me that they follow my blog!  One of them even won a giveaway I had a while back!  It was such a treat to meet them!  One visitor came from Pendleton, OR!

Thank you so much, Lori!

ANOTHER SMALL FINISH

The last quilt show that I went to had several vendors, among them was Jody of Jody Houghton Designs.  She has the cutest panels and fabrics at reasonable prices.  One of her samples was like the wall hanging that I just finished, so I purchased the panel and 2 fabrics.  Since then I decided to order some other items from her Etsy shop and I received them very quickly.

LORI DEJARNATT TRUNK SHOW - MONDAY,  MAY 8, 1:00 PM at
PIECEMAKER'S QUILT GUILD MEETING

775 NE 27th St. McMinnville, OR

If you live nearby, please come to Lori's "Seasonal Quilts" trunk show.  Email me if you have any questions.  Her blog is humblequilts.blogspot.com.

I'm very excited about this meeting as I have known Lori for several years and she was gracious enough to show me her quilts several years ago.  Very inspirational!

I will post a report of the meeting next week, but I'm sure I won't be able to take pictures of everything.

TOO BUSY TO POST?

My excuse for not blogging for a whole week is - I've been busy with projects, basting and quilting!  Here are some of them.

A cloth book for a baby shower coming up.

2 inside pages.  These pictures are so cute!!

I saw this at the last quilt show that I went to and couldn't resist buying the panel and making it into a wall hanging.  Not quite done yet.  It still needs binding.  I bought the panel from Jody Houghton Designs.  She has so many cute panels and products.

This is a donation quilt for a veteran.  Just finished it so I can turn it in at my guild meeting on Monday.

I quilted it as I went - in other words - I quilted it randomly.  Part of it is swirls and large stippling, then I changed to wavy lines and put some feathers inside some of the HSTs.  It just seemed to be needing some different quilting designs.

I think I bought this panel at a quilt show "boutique" and had fun quilting it just going around the boxes, houses, trees, etc.  It needs binding.

I got these 2 table runners quilted and now I need to bind them.

I've gotten behind on my  Moda Block Heads blocks, but here are a couple.

I now have 3 more of the 6 1/2" blocks to do to be caught up.  I couldn't work on them because I had ordered some of the background fabric and was waiting for it to come in to the LQS.  They called me yesterday, so I'll go pick it up today and maybe I'll be able to get caught up.

I'm sorry I haven't commented on very many blogs lately, but I haven't had very much time to read them.  Happy quilting!
