VINTAGE TIN HANGING IN MY LOCAL QUILT SHOP!

As many of you know, my local quilt shop is Boersmas!  It's about a mile from my home and it's the best shop in the Willamette Valley, IMHO.  Recently they had a quilt hanging that was made by one of their customers and I asked them if they would be interested in hanging my Vintage Tin quilt there, since they have the pattern for sale.  They said yes and I took it over last week.  I asked if I could take pictures of the other quilts that they have hanging and was given approval.

My quilt - given to my DH.

The have lots of quilts hanging inside and lots more in their window display.

You can get many ideas from the quilts that they hang.

Look at the antique sewing machines on display!!

Halloween fabrics are on sale.

These are lovely quilts!  We are so lucky to have this shop!  They even have a bargain basement with lots of bolts in it.  I get lots of my fabrics down there.

One interesting fact is that the owner's parents started in business in Chicago during the 1930s - at the same time that my Dad had a grocery store in Chicago.

YAMHILL COUNTY FAIR

Recently I entered 2 of my quilts in the Yamhill County Fair, which is held right here in McMinnville, Oregon.

I was fortunate enough to win a blue ribbon and a Judge's Choice on each quilt.  I also won "Best of Show" on the Vintage Tin quilt.

There were several categories, so each of my quilts won a blue ribbon in different categories while both of them were in the "Made by one person" category.

Vintage Tin was in the sub-category of hand embroidered quilt.

This is the quilt I made for my DH and I finished it early this year.

Oak Leaves and Turkey Feathers was in the sub-category of machine appliqué.

Oak Leaves and Turkey Feathers
I finished this quilt, which was designed by Jan Patek,  sometime last year.

Thanks for visiting!  It's hard to believe that my younger grandchildren start school this week.  Two are in 4th grade and my youngest is in 1st grade.  They grow so fast!  My 2nd grandchild will be a senior in college this year and his sister, my oldest grandchild, is married and will celebrate their 2nd anniversary this week.  DH and I will celebrate our 55th anniversary this week also!  Time is flying!!

TWO FINISHES!

This past week I finished DH's "Vintage Tin" quilt!  It was a year's worth of work on the embroidery in secret and then making the pieced blocks and the border in secret as well.  It was kind of fun surprising him for his special birthday.  This picture doesn't show up the embroidered blocks very well, but they are in another post here in case you haven't seen them before.  It measures 68" x 62".

I usually have a pile of string blocks that I work on from time to time and I got this string block donation quilt finished this week as well.  I do love these type of quilts.  This one measures approximately 67" x 52".

Here's the backing for the donation quilt.  I got this strange looking fabric at the LQS for $4.00/yard! I had originally planned to use it on a queen size quilt, but changed my mind and used something different.  I think I have enough of this for another donation quilt.

Guess what!  I have another new project!  This is a T-shirt quilt that has been commissioned by the SIL of a friend.  The T-shirts are here, and I bought a lot of wonder under for them.  These fabrics will be borders for the T-shirts.  School colors are navy blue and gold.  I plan to get started on it this week.

Are you starting any new projects this week?  Thanks for visiting!

VINTAGE TIN REPORT

I am working on the backing for the "Vintage Tin" quilt top that I made for DH.  BTW, this pattern was designed by Crab Apple Hill Studio.  Here are some pictures of some of the embroidery panels.

These are the top panels.  I personalized the top panel and another panel by changing the pattern's license plates.  The one in this top panel has our old Texas license plate number instead the number that was in the pattern.

This is the backing fabric.  It covers most of the back, but I will still need to do some piecing.  I found this in the "sale basement" of my LQS and I bought all that was on the bolt.

DH has had a few motorcycles in the past, so he liked this block a lot.

The pattern had a California license plate and I changed it to an Oregon plate!  Same goes for the Illinois license plate, which was an Ohio plate in the pattern.  We both grew up in Illinois and lived there some years after we were married.

Hopefully, I'll get the quilting done in the next couple weeks.
