2018 SCRAP ATTACK!

 I admit that I have a scrap problem.  As you can see, I have joined the "SCRAP ATTACK" group started by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Since I had already decided that I needed to use up a lot of scraps this year, I decided to join.  I had to put 12 goals on individual pieces of paper, one for each month, and then draw one each month.  I just drew the one for January and its - "Use men's shirt scraps and plaids to make a donation quilt.  Uh Oh!  That's not the one I wanted to work on this month.  But I could at least come up with an idea and start it.

I also have a list of UFO GOALS:

1.  Abby's Bodacious Quilt - I want to get this finished for Christmas 2018.  I have about 10 blocks done.

2.  American Cross Roads (blocks are done).
3.  Merry Trails Wall Hanging (Quilt Mania).
4.  Moda Block Heads - finish and put together.
5.  Pineapple 9-Patch
6.  Blocks my Grandma made in the 40's - put together, quilt and bind.
7.  Cat quilt - pieces are cut.
8.  Verandah Views, which was a block of the month from Willowberry Designs, 2009.  All the embroidery blocks are done and need to be put together into a quilt.
9.  Grandma's Flower Garden that I started at least 10 years ago.  After making several blocks, I decided to turn it into a lap quilt.  It wasn't working out very well, so I stopped working on it.  I want to get it finished one way or another.

10.  Another block of the month, which I can't find, was basket blocks for each month.  It's really cute and I finished about 8 or 9 of them.  I would like to get the rest finished.

Do you think that is enough?  If not, I may be able to come up with a few more.  Ugh!!

My design wall has some log cabin blocks on it that I want to make into a table runner.  The blocks measure 5 1/4" unfinished.  They aren't sewn together yet.

Well, please wish me luck with these projects.  I plan to use scraps in my UFO projects, so I might reduce my stash some if I only purchase fabric that is absolutely necessary to finish a project.

A BIRTHDAY PARTY AND SEWING IN A CONDO

Yesterday we celebrated our granddaughter's 9th birthday with a party at the "Sky Zone."  Abby had 4 guests there along with parents, grandparents (us) and my sister (great aunt).

I have done some more sewing since we arrived in Pensacola.  First, I finished the table runner and place mats for my DIL in Kansas.

The table runner has 4 sections and on each end there is a part that will hang down on either end of the table with 3 smaller sections.

I made 6 place mats - with no batting in them - that's the way she wanted them.

Then, in my spare time (mostly early in the morning) I continued working on some projects that I had brought with me.

I had decided I wanted to make a table runner with some log cabin blocks that measure 5 1/4", so I started on those.

I also made some more of these 13 1/2" sawtooth star blocks out of scrappy pieces and 5" charm pack left-overs.

Have you ever had a picture taken with a pelican?  I did today! 

Happy New Year everyone!  I probably won't post again until 2018 and then I will try to have a list of my 12 scrappy projects that I will do to try to use up at least some of my scraps.  See confessions of a fabric addict.

END OF FEBRUARY

Thanks for everyone's comments and encouragement regarding my carpal tunnel syndrome!  Guess what?  I haven't stopped sewing yet, exactly!  I'm waiting for my first therapy session on Monday and then will see what the therapist recommends.

In the mean time, I put up some of my log cabin blocks onto my design wall.  I finished the blocks quite a while ago and have been occupied with other things, but wanted to see how it would look.  This is only some of the blocks.  I have enough to make a queen sized quilt.  I saw this in a quilt shop when Beth took me on our own shop hop several years ago.  And I decided to make one like it.  It may take me a while, but I will get it finished.  The blocks finish at 4 3/4".

Then, I received an order for antique looking doll bed sheets and quilt from someone and needed to get them finished before my therapy starts.  Below is the pillow, top and bottom sheets that I made from "aged" muslin.  I made the bottom sheet to slip on and button with real antique buttons.

I also finished the binding on this table runner!  I will be linking it with QuiltShopGal's weekly "Creative Goodness" blog.  The table runner will live on my coffee table.

BTW, for those of you who aren't aware, when you add a photo to Blogger, you can leave it the way it loaded (which is medium), or you can click on the picture and then click on "Large" or "X-Large."  I usually make mine "Large", but today I made the picture of the table runner and the log cabin blocks "X-Large."  Can you tell the difference? And when you click on the pictures and it puts them all together to browse through, does it make a difference?  I really like to see pictures larger and hope that if you didn't know about this feature that you will try it.

LOG CABIN BLOCKS FINISHED!

I finished the required number of log cabin blocks (360) to make a queen size quilt - if my figuring is accurate!  I can't start putting it together yet, though, because most of the blocks are in storage.  I plan to lay it out in the barn raising pattern - anyway, I think that's what it is called.  I don't have any quilting books with me right now.  It starts out like this and continues like this.

After I finished the LC blocks, I spent some time quilting on my basket quilt.

Today I decided to work on Dear Jane.  I spent the morning prepping 6 blocks and picked out fabric for 3 of them.  Picking out the fabric is the hardest part of prepping.  And I don't have all my fabric with me either, of course.

LOG CABIN BLOCKS

I've been working on my log cabin blocks this week and am almost finished with them.  I figured that I need 360 of them and by my last count, I am lacking 9 blocks.  It won't take long to get those finished.

Friday I stopped at a fund raising garage sale and saw these blocks - couldn't resist buying them.  I put them up for sale on my Etsy shop.

It doesn't look like we will get the house we made an offer on, so we have been looking at more houses.  There is a possibility in one of them, but we are still looking.

During the last couple days I have gotten back to work on the quilt for my DIL.  It is a machine appliqué quilt as you can see in this picture.

I have also started making 50 more log cabin blocks as you can see below.  I have a small box that I keep the 1" strips in.

POST TRIP REPORT

I guess I did quite a bit of sewing on our trip, but it doesn't seem like it to me.  Here is my recap of projects worked on.

32 finished log cabin blocks that finish at 5 1/4" (on right) - 11 almost finished - I ran out of light fabric.

These 2 stacks add up to 133 log cabin blocks that I already had from before, so that will make 176 blocks.  I don't know how big I will make the quilt yet.  I guess I will just keep making blocks until I am tired of them.

I made these quarter square triangles with a charm pack that I bought at Keepsake Quilting and plan to make a table runner out of it.  I have rearranged the blocks a little since I took the picture.

I'm planning on putting black strips between the rows and then a black border.

I started this doll kit that I had ordered from Keepsake Quilting back in June and I made the head and pantaloons before the trip.  During the trip I made the 2 outfits, which still need velcro added and buttons, as well as a hat for each.  The body looks like it will be fun!  Not!

I finished this panel of the Crab-apple Hill pattern "Over the River and Through the Woods.

And started on this panel.  I'm about half way with this one and then there's one more to go.

After we got home, I made this crazy quilt block for my quilt guild and turned it in on Monday (the first one I have ever made).  I took the picture before I finished it, so there should be 2 embroidered roses in the lower left corner.  The blocks from all the members will be put together and one of the guild members will win the quilt in a drawing in December.

I finished this doll quilt that I had started on the trip - it just needs binding.

Sunday we're participating in a craft show, so I'm busy getting ready for that.  Hope you all have a good week!
