ESTATE SALE, UFO AND POT HOLDERS

Yesterday I went to an estate sale,  saw this quilt top and decided to buy it!  It is hand pieced with teeny tiny stitches!

Here's a close-up so you can see the fabric better.

I decided I needed to get busy on some UFOs and picked this one as all the blocks have been finished for a while.  I am almost finished putting it together.  The pattern is American Crossroads and it was published in Quilt Sampler fall/winter edition in 2005.

I needed a new pot holder "handle" for my cast iron frying pan and decided to make several to sell as well.  I'm keeping 2 for myself.  The green ones are broccoli fabric and then there is corn fabric and chicken fabric.  They are a necessity if you cook with cast iron!

We are getting some much needed rain here.  Have a lovely Sunday!

DID I EVER MENTION THAT I LOVE ESTATE SALES? hehe

Saturday a friend and fellow quilter texted me about an estate sale that had lots of fabric.  Naturally, I hopped in the car and drove over - just a couple miles from home.  (Amazingly, I hadn't even checked Craigs List for garage sales that day).

There was a table loaded with fabric folded up and taped.  Plus lots of other sewing and knitting supplies.

1st picture:  small bag already sewn, 2 wire quilt hangers for small quilts, bag of scraps for 25⍧ and a June Tailor Point Presser & Clapper ($2).  I had seen wood clappers recommended for pressing down on thick seams, but would never have paid full price for one.  I just looked it up and these things cost about $38!!

2nd picture:  This almost finished chenille jacket was folded up with the pattern and taped around with masking tape.  I couldn't really tell what it was, but decided I would get it if it was inexpensive (cheap) enough.  It cost me $2.  I need to sew on the other sleeve, get a yard of fabric for the binding, and it will be finished.  If it doesn't fit me, I will sell it - I'm vending at a quilt show Aug.  5 & 6 - Powerland, Brooks, OR.

3rd picture:  some yardage and fat quarters, approximately 17 yards and the cost averaged $1.37/yd.

4th picture:  The folded up panel was in a bag marked $1.00 and I paid 50⍧ on the last day.  I was surprised that it contained 4 panels!  I hope to sell these also.

My neighbor (and vending partner) said:  "Why didn't you buy all the FQs when they were 25⍧?  I didn't have a good answer, other than I didn't want DH to have a heart attack.  He's very easy going, but I didn't want to press my luck.

I also got some pretty buttons that I'm listing on Ebay.

UFO FINISHED!

I am so happy to have this UFO finished!  This was my travel project when I retired in 2009 and I started it in December on our first trip after I retired when we traveled by car to Florida.  I had my new (to me) Featherweight along and worked on these blocks in the motel at night.  The name of it is "Scrappity Do Dah" and it was a free pattern that came in a quilting magazine promotion.  It measures 88" x 98" to be a generous queen size.

Scrappily Do Dah

Here are some close ups of different areas of the quilt so you can see some of the fabrics and the quilting.

Backing fabric has tiny buttons on it.

Another UFO is almost finished.  I started this one a few years ago when Barristers Block had a sew-a-long.  I didn't finish it then, but this year she had another SAL, so I got it out and now I'm quilting it.  It's a Bullseye quilt with raw edges that will fray after I wash it, which I will do after I'm done quilting and binding it.  I'm about half way finished with the quilting.  First I stitched in the ditches and now I'm quilting around the circle (bulls eye) and adding a leaf shape in the corners.  I think that will be enough quilting.  I might quilt feathers in the border.

I'm almost finished with this table runner that I'm making for my Etsy shop.  I just need to sew the binding to the back.

I bought the backing fabric a toile with birds on it while on a shop hop a few weeks ago in Grandma's Quilt Shop located in Dallas, Oregon.  It's a small town about 20 miles from where I live now.

A week ago I got lucky at an estate sale where there was literally tons of fabric, quilt kits, cross stitch kits and yarn for sale.  I purchased a bunch of fabric for $1/yard as well as kits that I am listing in my Etsy shop.  I'm still not finished listing items from this sale.

Happy quilting!
