I'm not sure when I started this quilt, but maybe 2 weeks ago. It measures 56" x 70". It's my second T-shirt quilt and I'm not hoping to do any more of them.
I just hope the recipient likes it!
Here's a close-up picture of part of it. I ironed fusible web interfacing on the back side of all the T-shirts and then cut them to 12 1/2". 3 inch sashing was sewn on to each side of the block and then I used a template to slant the T-shirt by trimming off the sashing so that every other block would tip the opposite direction. The finished block measures 14".
For the backing I sewed a lot of the trimmed portion from the sashing into the center column and added a few other T-shirts on each side. I quilted it in a large stippling design on my domestic sewing machine.
I haven't had time to post because of being very busy with this quilt and some family obligations as well as trying to get my tax documents prepared for our tax preparer. I'll be glad when the tax papers are out of my hair!
Because I have more quilting to do!!!
Congratulations, Ruth. Wow! Fourth finish! I'm so impressed. I can barely finish blocks for a quilt and you have 4 quilts completely finished. Awesome achiever. Love the use of the cutoffs on the back. It makes for an interesting design AND no waste. Extra kudos for that one. Very well done! ;^)
ReplyDeleteI really like the T-shirt quilts that tilt the blocks. You made this way more interesting to look at than just straight blocks in rows and columns. The back is great, too. I hope the recipient likes it, it is a wonderful quilt. Lots of memories in there. I've never done a t-shirt quilt, and I don't think I really want to. There is a lot of work involved. Hope the taxes are done soon so you can get back to important stuff, like quilting!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will be treasured. Lots of great memories I guess. I like how you used the offcuts from the smashing on th eback.
ReplyDeleteRuth, as tee-shirt quilts go, this is the best and most innovative one I've ever seen! It is really special in every way, love what you did with the back too!

ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. I am sure the recipient will love it.

That is a really fun setting for a t-shirt quilt. I love the way you used the trimmings on the back, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you--after my second t-shirt quilt, I'd rather not make more. Unfortunately, before I knew how much I didn't love making them, I committed myself to making three. : (
I should see it from the bright side--only one more to go!
What a unique layout for your t-shirt quilt! It is really cute. I've avoided t-shirt quilts always, even though I aggravated a good friend by doing so. I've been planning everyday to get on my taxes, but manage to put it off every day so far. I refuse to let myself get into quilting until taxes are out of the way, so maybe today! (I did do a little quilt planning yesterday, so maybe that will be the key to getting on the taxes. *wink*) ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo, another finish!!! But is it bad that I like the back better than the front? (I think the idea of t-shirt quilts is great, but they don't mean as much to everyone else...)
ReplyDeleteThis is so well done. I love the tilt to the blocks and the fact you used the offcuts on the back. So excellent. What a lucky recipient and I'm sure it will become a real treasure to them. Great progress for the year too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tshirt quilt!
