QUILT SHOW IN RICKREAL, OR

Thursday I attended the Mid Valley Quilt Guild (of Salem, OR) Quilt Show in Rickreal, OR with a friend/neighbor and we had a great time!  Here are some of the quilts - not a lot - but some that I really liked.

This first one was my favorite because it was so unique! You could look at it for a long time and discover different aspects to it.

Here's the label which explains the theme of the quilt.

There were embellishments, like Fiona's necklace with fancy attachments and her pince-nez glasses and with its retractable ribbon pinned to her dress (a narrow tape measure).  The black fabric at the bottom has phrases on it:  a time to laugh, a time to dance, etc.  Everything relates to time, including the pattern on her dress and the clock numbers on her face.

Such a fun quilt!

This blue quilt was amazing and I think the technique was some kind of Japanese appliqué.

After the quilt show we visited the Ladies of Liberty Quilt Shop in Independence, OR which specializes in civil war reproduction fabrics.  The selection was limited, but I did find some fabric that I liked.  I also bought some fabric at the quilt show from SilverQuilts which was quite reasonably priced.

All in all, it was a lovely day!

TABLE RUNNER AND DOLL QUILTS

I have had the Moda Laura's London Lawns II charm pack for several years and "finally" decided to do something with it.  I made HSTs with the charm pack fabrics and two different white on white fabrics.  This will make a great spring or summer table runner.

I quilted it with white thread on the white portion and a variegated blue, pink and green on the colored portions.

There were some 5" squares left over, so I cut them into 2 1/2" squares and made a couple simple doll quilts out of them using the backing fabric for the alternating yellow squares.

I dug around in my stash to find a backing for the doll quilts and came up with this Timeless Treasures doll fabric by Bonnie Benn Stratton.  It is to cute and I had been saving it for something - but didn't know what.

I still need to sew on the binding, but will get that done this weekend.  Thanks for visiting!  What have you been working on?

POUCHES AND A BUTTERFLY

I made a few things for my sister's birthday and thought I would share them.  I made her a couple pouches to use as a cosmetic case or whatever.  I like using hexies to embellish them.  These are nice to have as coin purses or credit card holders too.  It's easy to adjust the size for any use.  I used the tutorial from Simple Simon and Company, changing the size to what I wanted and quilting it the way I wanted.

Make them any size for different uses, like a coupon holder, sewing supplies, etc.

I love the blue flowers on white fabric used for the top section and lining.

A month ago or so I received an origami butterfly from a quilter and posted about it here.  Since then, Chantal has posted a tutorial for the butterflies, so I made this one for my sis.  Here is the link to her tutorial in case you want to make some.

Batiks make beautiful butterflies!

DESIGN WALL SHIFTING

I decided it was time to start putting my log cabin blocks together.  Each block measure 5 1/4" (unfinished) and I will be putting them together into a queen size quilt.  My design wall is filled with these and there are still more to add.  I started to sew the blocks together and once all these are together I can probably fit more on the wall.

I took this picture before starting to sew them together and after I had looked at the arrangement many times.  As I started to sew them together, I noticed that something wasn't right, so I had to re-arrange the blocks.  Notice on the top row, the light colored diamond shaped sections should actually be dark ones.

Here's a close up of some of the blocks.  I love the way the dark and light diamond shapes work together.

I took this picture after fixing the top row of blocks as well as some of the side columns.  This is a lot harder than it looks!  I can put up some blocks, but then have to back off and look at it from a distance to make sure the design is correct.  Even then it is hard to see incorrectly turned blocks.  I sure don't want to have to take it apart if I sew them together incorrectly!

The trees are beautiful here in Oregon now.  This is a tree in my neighborhood - an ornamental cherry tree.

This dogwood tree belongs to my next door neighbor and is right next to our driveway.

Other current projects are this table topper (like one I made for our table) which will be donated to a silent auction raising money for the youth group at church so teenagers can attend a special conference.

A NEW BIRD HOUSE AND OTHER STUFF

Yesterday I happened to go past a community sale and I saw this cute teapot bird house for $3!   Here it is hanging in the tree right outside our bedroom window.  I can see it from the sewing studio window also!

Darlene at Quilt Shop Gal has a Creative Goodness Linky Party every Friday and since today is Friday I will link this post to it to show what I have been working on.   I recently won this book in a drawing because I had linked something to her linky party in the past.

These are a couple patterns in the book that I really like.

This is a donation quilt that is ready to go except for hand sewing the binding to the back.  It may have to wait as my Doctor said I should give the hand a rest for a while.

Two more small quilts, doll quilt and scrappy table topper that need the binding sewn to the back.
