TWO MORE FINISHES FOR JANUARY

Can't believe it's the last day of January, 2018 already!!  I have a couple more finishes for this month. This first one will be given to a veteran.  It's not the official Quilt of Valor, but a similar program and is lap size.

Here's the backing.

I quilted and bound my log cabin table runner.  It measures 15" x 44".

I quilted feathers swirling back and forth across the quilt.

Here's a close up of one corner folded back so you can see some quilting.

I feel pretty good about my Scrap Attack that I reported on in my January 16 post.  I am continuing to sew triangles of men's shirt fabric together and will work on sewing them into quilts.  I didn't finish the quilt yet, but it's being worked on.  Tomorrow I will draw my Scrap Attack project for February.

A FINISH, SOME BASTING AND PROGRESS

My first finish of 2018 is Palmateer Point!  It was quilted in my last post, but now it is bound.

Today I basted two quilts:  a log cabin table runner and a Christmas wall hanging.  I want to get a head start on December.  This wall hanging was purchased at a quilt show a couple years ago.

I have also been working on Barb's block exchange and have the first 22 6" churn dash blocks finished.  I love these blocks!

I have shown these scrappy blocks before  (Charming Squares Quilt from Moda Bake Shop) and decided to put them up on the design wall so I could see if I have enough.  I decided I need to make one more row of 4 blocks so it will be big enough for a twin size bed.  I will add 2" white sashing and that will make it 88" x 56" without the border.  The blocks use 5" charm squares, which I had an abundance of random ones left over from other projects, and they are fun to make.

I am feeling much better than I was in my last post and think I'm over the "creeping crud."  How is your January going?

SCRAP REPORT!

Last week I drew the January scrap challenge paper out of the jar and got "Do something with men's shirts bin."  That was not the one I wanted for January, but being the obedient follower that I am, I dug into the bin of men's shirts.  And, first I tried to come up with an easy way to use them.  I decided to cut 6 1/2" squares because that is how wide my ruler is.  Then I cut them on the diagonal so I could make HSTs.

Here is what I have left after I put together a quilt top measuring 44" x 55".  I will probably border it with larger 6 1/2" by whatever blocks to make a lap quilt or maybe a picnic quilt or I could use them as a backing for another quilt.  At least I have something going with the shirt fabric.  I will probably keep some of the triangles handy to stitch together between other projects and maybe I can use them all up.  I will NOT be getting any more shirts!!

I also quilted my Palmateer Point quilt with Baptist fans.

I've been sick with a cold/sinus infection since Friday and am going stir crazy.

2018 SCRAP ATTACK!

I admit that I have a scrap problem.  As you can see, I have joined the "SCRAP ATTACK" group started by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Since I had already decided that I needed to use up a lot of scraps this year, I decided to join.  I had to put 12 goals on individual pieces of paper, one for each month, and then draw one each month.  I just drew the one for January and its - "Use men's shirt scraps and plaids to make a donation quilt.  Uh Oh!  That's not the one I wanted to work on this month.  But I could at least come up with an idea and start it.

12 goals for using scraps

Here are some photos of my "problems."  This is embarrassing!

Bag of triangle scraps

3 drawers full of strips

3 more drawers full of strips

A bin with 1" and 1 1/2" reproduction scraps

box of selvedges

3 more drawers full of scraps

4-patch scraps to make into a donation quilt

5" squares that I bought (!) for $1.00
I didn't even take a picture of the large bin full of men's shirts and I'm sure there are others as well.

I also have a list of UFO GOALS:

1.  Abby's Bodacious Quilt - I want to get this finished for Christmas 2018.  I have about 10 blocks done.

2.  American Cross Roads (blocks are done).
3.  Merry Trails Wall Hanging (Quilt Mania).
4.  Moda Block Heads - finish and put together.
5.  Pineapple 9-Patch
6.  Blocks my Grandma made in the 40's - put together, quilt and bind.
7.  Cat quilt - pieces are cut.
8.  Verandah Views, which was a block of the month from Willowberry Designs, 2009.  All the embroidery blocks are done and need to be put together into a quilt.
9.  Grandma's Flower Garden that I started at least 10 years ago.  After making several blocks, I decided to turn it into a lap quilt.  It wasn't working out very well, so I stopped working on it.  I want to get it finished one way or another.

10.  Another block of the month, which I can't find, was basket blocks for each month.  It's really cute and I finished about 8 or 9 of them.  I would like to get the rest finished.

Do you think that is enough?  If not, I may be able to come up with a few more.  Ugh!!

My design wall has some log cabin blocks on it that I want to make into a table runner.  The blocks measure 5 1/4" unfinished.  They aren't sewn together yet.

Well, please wish me luck with these projects.  I plan to use scraps in my UFO projects, so I might reduce my stash some if I only purchase fabric that is absolutely necessary to finish a project.

Have you made any goals or joined any group for 2018?  Let's all work together to use up scraps and stash!!
