Baby quilt top finished!

I just finished the quilt top for our expected granddaughter.  I was hoping to get it finished in time for my quilters guild meeting on Oct 13, but getting the top finished will have to do.  I have company coming and a trip before then, so I know I won't have time to get it quilted (I'm going to quilt it myself).  The baby shower is Nov. 1, so I will have time to quilt it before then.
My DH & I like to go to garage sales and we hadn't gone to any for months, but now, with the weather a tiny bit cooler, we decided to venture forth.  I like to look for craft items that I can use to make things to sell, or doll beds to refinish and to make bedding for.  We had some very good luck at one place where I found these cross-stitched pictures being sold very cheaply.  I got a great deal of 9 for $15!  I plan to make quilted borders for these and sell them (or keep a few).  I love cross-stitched pictures and have made many myself - they  take a lot of work, so I feel very lucky to have gotten these.

I love little doll chairs and this little rocker with the bunny was only $2!!!
The heart pillows in the basket made out of an antique quilt was only 75 cents!!!
Have a great week!  I will be binding a quilt for my oldest GS that I just got back from the quilter and will take a picture as soon as I can.  It feels good to get these two projects almost finished.

  1. First of all since I'm a fanatic about redwork I think the quilt is stunning. I made one for my last granddaughter and won my one and only blue ribbon for it. :) And what a great deal you got at the yard sales. I love the counted cross stitch pictures. I bought one for a dollar once and put borders around it, quilted it and hung it above my fireplace. I often wonder about the woman who stitched that piece. blessings, marlene

  3. I love the redwork quilt! Nice! And the cross stitch... they are so pretty and such nice work. I feel bad that someone didn't realize how valuable they were! Some woman (or man, lol) worked so hard on them. But I am sure glad you got them because you appreciate their value. I really love the one with the chair and the quilt. Lovely!

  4. Your red/white quilt is just darling! At first it looks like a Jaoob's Ladder pattern but must be put together differently since the light patches are all one. So cute!

What a bunch of delightful finds - Happy Day! 8-))

  5. Don't you just love that redwork baby quilt pattern! I just finished piecing the same one --for no one in particular. I just liked the pattern. :-) Your cross stitch blocks will be great with pieced borders. Good idea! Your post is full of creative ideas!

  6. Love the baby quilt -- can't wait to see it quilted. And what a haul on the cross-stitch. That pic cross stitch sure brings back memories. That's from an old Josonia Jansen (sp?) tole painting design that she then marketed as cross stitch. I think my parents still have those piggies that I painted stuffed away in a closet somewhere!

  8. Ah, the quilt is just so sweet and it will be extra special if you quilt it. Great buys at the yard sale. I am always a little sad when I see someone's handiwork sold at yard sale. I would think it would be better to just give it away. Its nice to know that someone who appreciates all the time and effort that went into the project got it.
