CAMPING IN OREGON & WYOMING

On Monday, June 28, we left my BIL's home headed for Yellowstone National Park. The truck started overheating, so we stopped in John Day, OR to get repairs done (which were accomplished in short order and wasn't too expensive). Since we were delayed some, we decided to find a place to camp in Oregon instead of continuing on to Idaho.

This is the place we stayed, near Unity, OR. Since it was a National Forest and we have a Golden Age Pass, we only had to pay $3.00. The fee is usually $6.00 because it doesn't have any electricity or water.

It was very quiet and scenic. Only one other camper came in. We spent a relaxing evening and went to bed early. No TV to watch w/o electricity.
Today, we are at a camp site near Cheyenne, WY called Terry Bison Ranch. We are on our way home to Texas. While we're not looking forward to the heat, we can't wait to get home! We've been gone over a month now. I will be posting more soon with pictures from Yellowstone, etc.

  1. An overheating truck - oh no! I hope it was a simple, inexpensive fix. Growing up, we tent camped in "primitive" campgrounds (no flushing toilets, showers, electricity, etc.) and it was very peaceful in the evenings and mornings. The sounds of fires crackling, other campers chatting quietly and the wind blowing through the trees...kinda makes me want to go camping now...!

  3. My husband and I used to go camping like that before we were married. I always called it "rough camping" and I so miss it. But it was always good to come home!

  5. What a huge camper! Now that, on that big red truck, is the way to camp! I saw the earlier pictures, but just didn't realize how big the rig is! I'm so glad you are getting to enjoy your retirement so much by traveling. Hope you will be home by the Midlothian show on the 17th.(?) Have fun, and travel safety to you! ---"Love"

  8. Glad you got the truck fixed without breaking the bank. I remember a couple of trips when I was a kid when the car overheated. Not the best time in the world;)

  11. I have so much enjoyed your trip log around Oregon! I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Virginia 6 years ago. It is so gorgeous here! But Virginia is REALLY gorgeous!! Yes, A Virginian at heart. Guess it's in my blood. My ancestors go way back to 1740 in the Shenandoah Valley.
