A PATRIOTIC PIECE

You might remember that I had mentioned to my GD that I didn't think I had enough patriotic quilts to decorate for Independence Day.  Well, I got an email from Connecting Threads regarding some patriotic fabric on sale.  I decided to order some as I really liked one of the designs and also needed some white on white.  The fabric came on Saturday - fast delivery!

Fabric from Connecting Threads
Have you ever ordered from Connecting Threads?  Over the years, I have mainly ordered thread, and occasionally, batting from them.  But last year I was looking for some fabric for the quilt I was making for my GS's high school graduation.  I decided to check their web site and I found something that was similar to the fabric that Bonnie Hunter used (I was making her Star Gazing pattern).  You can see it in the header - it's the sashing fabric in the quilt that is on the bottom left.  I was very happy with the quality of the fabric.

The fabric that they sell under their label is about $5.96 per yard.  The patriotic fabric was half price, so I bought 4 yards of the R/W/B.  The white on white was regular price.  They also have some name brand fabrics which cost more, but are still less expensive than quilt shops.  I really like the 2 fabrics that I bought.  As to their thread, I use their Essential Cone Thread (natural) for all of my piecing.  One cone has 5,000 yards of thread for $9.99.  I also use their quilting threads and am very happy with both.

Below is the little "patriotic" wall hanging that I made from the pattern by Miss Stacy at Buttermilk Basin.  The pattern was free and is still available.  It didn't take me long at all to get this prepped and I machine stitched it, so that was quick as well!  I'm going to be looking for more patriotic items to make, so that next summer I won't be short!  Maybe a table runner, or something using my new fabric?

Thanks, Miss Stacy!

  1. I've never ordered from Connecting Threads but this is the second mention of them that I have read in the past few days.
That blue fabric looks like fireworks. Should look great in a patriotic piece.
Great job on the BB pattern. Before you know it you will outdo me in the number of RWB items for your home. : )

  2. Thanks for the reminder! I meant to order the same R/W/B fabric while it was on sale, but when I looked the second time, that particular fabric didn't appear, and I didn't have time at the moment to chase it down. At least it shows up now at the regular price; I'll take care of that now! I order regularly from Connecting Threads and have always been pleased with their product as well as the service. I order all my thread and batting from there when its on sale. Again, I LOVE that fabric you got; I'll get mine ordered too. ---"Love"

  3. I don't order a lot from the States, try to shop local, but when I do it is ALWAYS from Connecting Thread. Always have excellent service, fast delivery, answer all my questions and the shipping is cheap. Ordered once from somewhere else and the shipping was 3X the price of CT. Never again.
Love your little Crow on Spool. Too cute!!

  4. I love your little RWB piece! So cute. I have half a tote of RWB fabrics and fat quarters that need to be made up into some summertime pieces for all the holidays and summer dinners we seem to be hosting here. I've shopped Connecting Threads for a few fabrics and I think some batting on sale once. Haven't tried their threads yet.

  7. That's a super Prim wall-hanging. Nice fabrics too. I rather like the patriotic streak Americans have for their country. Wish we were a bit more like that here.

  8. Nice you are looking ahead! When you know you are going to be in the Portland area you should plan on going to CT in Vancouver. It's right across the bridge!

  9. The little BB wall hanging is so cute! I saved the pattern but life has gotten busy and I won't get to it right away! The fabrics are both very nice and you will have fun working on another RWB project. I am always drawn to any quilts made with RWB! I have to go check out Connecting Threads and see what I can find.
