MY WEEK

It's been a week since I've posted anything, mainly because while I have been busy sewing, but there's not much to show for it.  I mailed the giveaway off to Sally, she received it and sent me a nice note.

I finished appliquéing the baskets for February.

One day this week I was reading a blog by the Cuddle Quilter and she was telling about the rainbow challenge.  I did check it out and I'm NOT joining it, however, I liked the idea and decided to try it out with some string blocks.

While I was sorting some of my string scraps into color groups, DH came in the room, picked up the camera and took a picture of the mess.  He said I should post it on my blog, so here it is.  You can see my scrap basket on the left side of the picture.  This basket lives under my sewing table so that when I have any scraps or strips I can easily drop them into it.  Lately though, in order for the scrap to stay in the basket I would have to stuff it down, otherwise it would just end up on the floor.  In other words, it was packed with scraps.  I did get some of it sorted into colors, but it is still 3/4s full.

Here are a few of the blocks I made into color groups.  I am going to use these for a donation quilt and will arrange the colors into a rainbow type plan, or something else that looks good.  I really need to make some of these every day in order to empty my basket.  If I don't, the scraps might take over the whole room!

One of my main goals was to get the applique and the civil war quilts basted.  I did baste the applique quilt, a table runner and a doll quilt.  I still have to baste the civil war quilt, but decided to start quilting the appliqué quilt first.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

  1. Looks to me like you got a lot done this week. I find the string blocks interesting. Doing them in one color per block will rainbow style will give an interesting look to a scrap quilt. And a scrap basket not so full.

  3. You HAVE been busy!!! It is always fun to make blocks from scraps!! But it just seems like the scrap bag/box/basket just grows instead of diminishes!!

Basting is always a big project for me, so always nice to get that job done!! Looking forward to seeing your quilting!!

  5. I really don't know how you get so much done in a week! If I tried to do those baskets in a month, I'd never have time to even eat! I love how you are keeping the light center strips in the string block; makes for a pretty setting. No progress here this week! *frown* ---"Love"

  7. I like what you're doing with the string blocks. Yay for getting a quilt basted! That is definitely a point in the quilt making process where my production slows down.

The bitty blue baskets look pretty as usual. You have mastered that applique.

  9. Your little baskets are so sweet. How many of these will you be making?
The string blocks are a great idea. I would love to do something like that, but know I can't add anything to the queue right now. They are so pretty, though.

  10. Such a productive week - so much to show for it. Those scraps seem to breed in their basket/box so the string blocks are a good idea for taming them. The baskets are pretty too.

  11. Ruth, your string blocks are wonderful! What a great way to use some of your overflowing scrap basket! Loved seeing your sewing table. My corner looks almost the same...with me it seems like the smaller the quilt, the larger the mess! But what fun to play with it all!

  13. Those string blocks look great! From your pile of scraps, I wouldn't have thought you had that much, so the photo must have been taken early? The baskets are looking great and you have quite the pile there ready for quilting. You've been busy, but it looks like you've got big plans too!

  14. String blocks are on my to do list! Love how yours are turning out. I want mine to have a black or other solid color strip to run down each center. Never thought of trying a rainbow!
