Before I get to the blocks I want to show you the antique box I found at a garage sale.  I wonder what it was used for.

It looks perfect for storing fat quarters!  I don't know if I will use it for that, but it looks perfect.

As I'm sewing blocks together, I'm using pieces from the border of Virginia Bound as leaders and enders.  This picture shows an ender and I can cut the thread between and see how my blocks look.

These 3" blocks will be part of the border.

And here are four blocks put together (they are civil war fabric...the cheddar is a Jo Morton Andover).   I love how the light colored diamond shapes pop out when you look at it.  Or, sometimes the dark colored stars are more noticeable.

I hope I can get it put together this weekend.

  1. That's a great way to showcase your Civil War fat quarters until you use them. I wonder if the box was used to sort mail/bills etc.

You Virginia Bound is scrumptious! It's going to be a beauty.

  2. Oh, I love that box--what a fun storage unit--whatever you choose to store in it!
Beautiful quilt you have coming together there, Ruth!

  3. The way your lights go together in that block remind me of a faceted diamond. I love this block! Not to mention that fabulous yard sale find! Lucky you!

  4. What a great garage sale find. The fat quarters do look great in the box.
I love using leaders and enders. I did three big quilts that way and then did some smaller things using leaders and enders.
Right now I am doing Pat Sloan's Traffic Jam. Maybe next year Iwill finish it. LOL
    Love your block.

  5. Oooooo--I see one or seven of my blocks!!! How fun!!

Only a "mother" would recognize her own fabrics in that motley crew!

  6. Your quilt is going to be a beauty. Good luck on getting it together. Love the box - I gotta get out and start looking for "stuff"!

  7. Love the old box with the sections and also love the block - done perfectly, as usual.

  8. Your blocks look fantastic!! Love your new old box too. Looks like it was for holding mail?? Perfect for fabric!!

  9. I LOVE that box!! What a fun addition to your home!!

Your diamond quilt is just wonderful!! I'm thinking I want to make one too!! That the only bad thing about blogger - see way to many wonderful ideas!! But love it just the same!!

  10. I do love the way that block looks. Which one is that?

  11. I almost missed your post! Surely am glad I found it tonight. Those blocks are going to make a striking quilt; I love how it looks! (Got to remember that one!)The little box is unique! I'm sure you'll find a perfect use and place for it! ---"Love"
