MANSFIELD PARK FINISHED

I never had any desire to make a basket quilt until I saw this one displayed at a booth and I bought the pattern right away.  I don't remember how long ago it was, but it took me a while to start making it.  I am very happy with it.  Monday night I took it to my guild meeting for show and tell and had very positive comments!

Sunday morning we were home and our next door neighbor came over to tell us that the tranformer behind our two houses was on fire!  We had a storm during the night and our electricity had been off for several hours, but came on about 8:30.  Then it went off again about 10:30 and that's when the neighbor came over.  If you look closely, you can see the yellow/orange flame on the top part.

The fire department came out, but they didn't do anything

You can see a little yellow on this picture.

The fire department leaving.  You might be able to see that it had been raining.  We got quite a bit, which was wonderful!  It's raining again this morning.

Thanks for all your sweet comments on my last post!  It means a lot to me.

  2. LOVE LOVE LOVE your basket quilt, it is so very lovely! I have read your previous post on the process of quilting in two seperate sections.....why didn't I think of that??? Would have made my life much easier, I will definitely use that technique on my next full size quilt. Thanks for the tips

  4. WOW! It's wonderful! And I'm sure you're beyond excited that it's finished. :) A flaming transformer? Hopefully it kept its flames to itself and didn't involve any of those nearby trees! I'd guess the rain helped with that, but am scratching my head over the fire department doing nothing - I guess electrical fires and water don't mesh, but hmmm... I hope it's out now!

  5. Your basket quilt is gorgeous, I love the colors and the workmanship is wonderful. I guess only certain fires qualify for your fire department?! What's up with that?

  7. Ah, postage stamp baskets. So well done in both making the quilt and the machine quilting. A quilt you can be very proud of.

I have never machine quilted in sections like you did. That is very tempting to try.

I'm really surprised that the FD left before the fire was out.

  14. What a treasure your basket quilt is! No wonder you got rave reviews at your guild. What a collection of fabrics it has! My fire dept. didn't do anything either when the tree fell on my roof and took my power out; they just waited until the power co. crew got here; standard procedure I think. (?) ---"Love"

Not really surprised that the Fireys didn't want to splash any water on those electricity parts.
