After visiting my 2nd cousin's wife in Lewiston, Idaho, we traveled across the state on Route 12, which follows the Lochsa River. This is a very windy road right along side the river with beautiful mountains and trees all around. This is the area that Lewis and Clark traveled on their exploration of the west. Also, the movie "The River Runs Through It" was filmed somewhere near this area.
The drive was rather nerve wracking. However, the beauty of God's creation was amazing! The trip has been very good so far.
We stayed at this National Forest on Saturday night.
This is a stop at Lolo Summit where Lewis and Clark crossed the pass.Inside the museum was this quilt commemorating the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness.
This is a view of Lochsa River early on Sunday morning in the campground. It's almost hard to believe how much wilderness there is in our country.
When we got to Montana yesterday, the weather turned hot. We didn't want that! We will be meandering across Montana and the next major destination is Mount Rushmore! I hope to hit a couple quilt shops this week! It's been a while since I've been to one, so it's time.
That is beautifuol country!! Before moving my mom to town she lived east of Lewiston high in the mountains. Enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying traveling with you! Thank you for sharing all the pictures - we really do live in a beautiful country. :) You are also providing me with some lovely destinations to explore when we make the time for a trip like this. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful drive!!! have fun...enjoy Mount Rushmore!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip and thanks for the pictures! Mt. Rushmore is great. Hope the heat passes on and it is pleasant for your visit.
ReplyDeleteAs you go through Montana and go by Deer Lodge, stop by the Quilters Corner Etc quilt shop. One of the best in Montana, hands down. Also, Quilts on Broadway in Belgrade - tell Peggy and Sue "Hello from Jennifer who just moved to Idaho" - very nice gals. I lived in Three Forks for the last almost 4 years and these were my favorite shops.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I've always wanted to live in the mountains!
ReplyDeleteLiri
Lovely pictures. I enjoy seeing all the places you travel to.
ReplyDeleteDo you know when you might be in my neighborhood? I really hope that you will have time to at least meet . (I know some great shops I'd love to show you.).
Sorry you are hitting the heat; but don't come home yet. We are in for another 7 days of 3-digit temps! Also, for your info, Venus had a 3.0 earthquake Saturday; no damage known yet. I'm growing more envious of you everyday that passes! Enjoy Rushmore and Crazy Horse! They are truly amazing! ---"Love"
