It's Been Almost a Whole Month!!

I'm so sorry that I haven't posted for so long!  I truly don't know where the time goes.  A couple days ago I got caught up on some of my favorite blogs and I need to do that more often.

Some of the things that have been happening:

We went to Newport, Oregon to celebrate our 59th anniversary!  We just spent one night, but had time on 2 days to see some of the sights.  We've driven through this town several times and I even went to a quilt show there several years ago, but had never really looked around.  Here are a few highlights.

Watching the waves come in at Nye Beach

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

We found a great restaurant to eat where we had a perfect view of the Pacific Ocean!  Of course, a quilt shop had to be visited too.  Plus we went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Another event was an outdoor craft sale at the Yamhill County Heritage Museum, which is about 10 minutes from our house.  It was a perfect day and the main event there was "Harvest Fest" where they harvest the old fashioned way with horses.

Since I'm looking forward to fall arriving soon, I actually decorated our front porch a little.  An old chair, with a silly looking doll hanging on it and an orange and black quilt hanging on the chair.  The doll even has a matching skirt!

All I have to do after Thanksgiving is turn the quilt around and it will be ready for Christmas!  By that time, I will make a skirt for the doll that will match the Christmas quilt.

Right now, I am in the process of making a table runner - Double Dutch Stars.  It is ready to be basted.  Designed by Kim Diehl.

This pumpkin wall hanging just needs the border put on and then I can baste and quilt it.  It is in the book "Alphabet Soup" that I have had for years and I have wanted to make this for quite some time.

This year my marigolds have done very well (the ones that weren't eaten by slugs, that is).  The good thing is the deer don't like them so no nibbling by them.

I think I figured out how to keep the slugs away, so maybe next year I will have a longer row of them.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Has it really been that long? Time flies! (I know for folks stuck at home, it slows, but in my life, being stuck at home is great...though we do have greater freedom than a year ago!) The quilts are cute and I love the doll! I didn't realize deer didn't like marigolds, but they do have a distinctive odor, that I expect hints at their flavor, so it makes sense. Who knows what those slugs are up to - but who would expect such a slimy, gross creature to have good taste? (I'm okay with all the creatures out there, but some are far more pleasing to the eye than others!)

  2. OH my goodness, I love that chair and doll. Hmmmm..wonder if I can find a doll like that at Hobby Lobby that I can decorate for the seasons. I like the small quilt hanging on the quilt too. A very nice decorating idea. Thanks for sharing pictures from your trip. I do love lighthouses. I have a niece that lives in Bend, Oregon and she has invited me to come visit....a visit I need to time with the Sisters Quilt show.

  3. Summer gets away from us, doesn't it?
Sounds like you had a nice anniversary trip. We took our family to Newport once a couple of decades ago. Ate at Mo's, went to the Aquarium, the wax museum and The Yaquina Head lighthouse. Loved it there. Isn't that where they have the black rock beach?
Very cute doll and quilt on the front porch chair. Clever to have the quilt reversible.
You have a couple of great projects there.
Pretty marigolds. I grew no annuals this year other than the two pots on my deck.
    Good to hear from you!

  4. You think it's been a long time since you posted? It's been a year now since I did! Can't believe it! But I really haven't done much to post about, and also my picture program on my computer is still dealing me trouble. Got to change both those things causing delays! Your porch display is really cute! You always come up with the cutest things. I love seeing pictures from your area; I've been to Oregon one time, and that was year's ago. Your flowers are beautiful! ---"Love"

  5. Congratulations you two. Here's to many, many more. Cheers!
Love the doll with her quilt. Great idea to make it reversible. It's lovely on both sides. It's already pumpkin season. It makes my head spin. ;^)

  6. Happy Anniversary Ruth! No apologies are necessary. Your visit to Newport looked enjoyable. The porch decoration looks fine and the primitive doll is terrific compliment to the chair and quilt. Table runner looks good too.
