I'm sorry that it's been so long since I posted. No excuses!
This is a small quilt from Jo Morton's "Jo's Little Favorites II" book. I kept looking at it and finally decided to make it. It is made of all half square triangles (HSTs) made of civil war reproduction fabrics. I dug into my CW scrap bin to find lots of different fabrics. I tried counting the different fabrics and stopped at 50! It measures 17" x 20". I thought it would be a snap to put together, but it was harder than it looks. The HSTs are sewn together on the diagonal and my piecing isn't perfect.
This picture shows the backing. I quilted in the ditch but not all of them.
Your little half square triangle is adorable! And it looks just fine to me, construction-wise. The tree lot quilt is also really pretty and will be great to decorate with here in just a short while (oh no! really?!). And I too use bits and pieces of favorite fabrics in many quilts. Lately I've been working to embrace the scrapper style of quilting and have found pleasure in adding in favorites to many quilts. Of course, then I know that quilt had favorites in it, which makes it harder to part with, but I suppose the challenge could be worse, right?
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is going to be someone's favorite! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with your little quilt. The fact that it isn't perfect makes it even more endearing. I too try to put my favourite fabrics in as many quilts as I can and when I find a piece of fabric in the scrap bins that I thought was done and gone, I giggle with happiness. I know, I'm nuts, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou got a good bargain at the estate sale. It's a lovely quilt too. ;^)
Can't say I blame you for making that Christmas quilt right away, the kit fabrics are wonderful and the toile backing fabric is gorgeous! I hope that you're planning to keep this one for yourself. Love your mini too, it's a good way to use up a lot of scrap pieces and leftover triangles.
ReplyDeleteBoth are attractive quilts. I might have to try that Jo Morton quilt. I have been wanting to make one with HST's.
ReplyDeleteTree Lot was a terrific bargain and such a pretty quilt. I like your Jo Morton HST and like you I have favourite fabrics I like to use in various quilts.
ReplyDeleteSorry Ruth. When I try and post a comment from my iPad I don't think it works. Let's try from the desktop PC. You scored a great bargain on the Tree Lot quilt and it looks terrific! That Jp Morton mini was mighty tricky but oh boy what a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great little HST quilt. I know that isn't easy to put together. Haven't made that one specifically, but have made one that is very similar.
ReplyDeleteThe tree lot quilt is fun--and I LOVE the Christmas toile. What luck to find it at the same sale!
I absolutely love the barn quilt in your header. It is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects! The little HST quilt is adorable and the trees will be a great Christmas quilt!
