I received the Dear Jane book for Christmas and have made the first two blocks! The green one was pieced the regular way and the cheddar one was made by paper piecing. I will probably do a lot of paper piecing on these blocks even though I'm not too fond of PP. At least the piecing comes out looking good with PP. I had to use my seam ripper several times.

The next block will need to be hand appliquéd.
Both blocks are lovely!
ReplyDeletegreat start to you DJ - it will be fun to watch this project!
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. I started Dear Jane years ago. With moving up north and then back home I lost the blocks. I recently discovered them in a box of fabric I hadn't opened in a while and I plan on working on them again. I eagerly await your progress. Hugs
ReplyDeleteGood for you! That is a daunting quilt, but I've seen it come together one little bit at a time on other blogs. I suspect just getting started is the key step in this one!
ReplyDeleteYou have your work cut out for you. Those baskets are going to look like a walk in the park. Look forward to seeing this one grow.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Ruth! They both looks good. Yu put me to shame. I've had the book since shortly after it came out and I haven't made a thing. : )
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the paper piecing. Not my favorite thing, but you can't argue with the results.
I would have to totally skip the applique ones.
I am not a hbuge fan of PP either, but I do like the results! The Dear Jane quilts are so very beautiful. Not for me, at least notright now. Too many UFOs needing to be busted.
ReplyDeleteGreat start! These little blocks are so cute. Just keep working a block at a time and it will grow faster than you think. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a journey you are embarking on!!
ReplyDeleteI would do OK on the paper piecing, but not on the hand applique. I know yours will be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLillian
You're an ambitious (perhaps crazy?) woman for starting this quilt, but I know you can do it. So far, so good!
ReplyDeleteThat beautiful quilt requires much more patience and endurance than I could muster at this time! I attended a paper piecing workshop once. At the end, the instructor asked us to share what we had learned; my response was "I learned that I don't ever want to do paper piecing again!" (I may change my mind someday, but I doubt it.) ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to do a Dear Jane....your blocks look wonderful
