DH drew for the winner to my giveaway and Marsha at Grandma's Quilts won! Enjoy! Thanks to everyone who participated and for all the lovely comments that you sent.
Gone to Texas is finished !! Yea!! Inside pictures aren't the best, but it is too big to hang on the fence and hold up - 82" square. Pattern is published in the Gone to Texas by Betsy Chutchian. I love this book. It contains excerpts from her great-great grandmother's journal from mid 1800 along with 12 quilt patterns. The journal is wonderful and so touching in parts. I would recommend the book to you for just the journal excerpts. I'm so glad Betsy came to my guild meeting!
Quilted on my DSM (domestic sewing machine) with Baptist fans. It was hard to stay on the lines, so I'm not sure I will machine quilt this pattern again.
Friday I'm going on a quilting retreat with my guild!! It has been a long time since I've gone on one, so I am really looking forward to it.
I like the scrappy look. I don't have the book but it sounds like one I would like.
ReplyDeleteThat is an impressive amount of precise piecing! I think your fans look fantastic and fit the quilt well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quilt! It is just beautiful. The fans look great to me.
ReplyDeleteRuth, your Gone To Texas is gorgeous! The fabrics and colors are beautiful and the quilting looks wonderful to me. That is a big quilt to do on your domestic machine, but it would seem daunting to do by hand! And, thank you, I can't believe I won. It will be so much fun to play with some beautiful fabric and the little pincushion is so cute.
ReplyDeleteThe fan quilting looks fabulous...great job!
ReplyDeleteGone to TX came out nicely. You did a great job on it! Very striking.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, beautiful treasure you've created. I love all the colors and patterns and blocks - every time I look I see something I haven't seen before and I've seen pieces and parts of this quilt quite a few times! The quilting looks great, but we're our own worst critics.
ReplyDeleteThat's a GREAT quilt. And your baptist fans look fabulous!!! I may have to look at that book!
ReplyDeleteYou have a stunning quilt. Amazing piecing and amazing quilting! Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is wonderful!! So scrappy with so many great prints. I think the fans look just fine - I can see how they would be tricky on such a large quilt. I love that book too :0)
ReplyDeleteYou did a fntastic job and it is perfect for this busy quilt. I love it!!

ReplyDeleteI just tried my first FMQ Baptist Fans last night and I agree--it was hard to stay on the lines. But I think It looks really good on this quilt!
Your quilt is beautiful! I just LOVE it! Baptist Fans is my favorite and it was perfect for your quilt!
ReplyDeleteAs always, your piecing is perfect! In my opinion, so is your quilting! I may have to get that book just to read, but I don't know when I could ever make it! Your quilt is really, really special! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a wonderful finish, the quilt looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting, don't be so hard on yourself!
Betsy is going to be so happy!

The quilt is amazing, Ruth! So colorful. Far as your quilting goes? If someone mentions it and they don't quilt just chalk it up to jealousy. If that someone does quilt, tell them they are free to tear out and "fix" your mistakes! (They won't take you up on that, LOL!) No quilt is perfect and that is what makes them beautiful! You surely have a winner there.
