As many of you know, I seem to be drawn to vintage doll beds. I told DH a while back that I wasn't going to buy doll beds any more....but when I see a good deal, I can't seem to help myself! I saw this doll bunk bed set at a garage sale a couple months ago. At first I didn't know what it was. Maybe it was a vegetable bin or other such storage. So I went closer and this is what I saw.
Look at the price tag. $4.00! Wow! So, I asked if it was doll beds and did the price include both of them? Yes! OK. That is sold!
So, the first thing to do is made mattresses and pillows.
Love the ticking fabric.
Next comes sheets and pillowcases. Must add some lace to the pillowcases.
Much better.
Now, the important part - quilts! I decided to make them pink and blue since those colors are on the lining of the beds. One is blue, one is pink. Maybe the dolls are twins - a boy and a girl.
Much better!
All ready! The blue quilt turned out much better than the pink one, but I guess they will do. Hope someone needs doll beds for their little girl.
This is the Civil War block of the week. If you go to the blog site, there is some very interesting historical information along with the directions to make the block. I found out that last Friday was the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's inauguration. Very interesting information concerning it.
Happy quilting, everyone!
I too collect doll beds. I've made that same promise to my husband. The first quilt I made was for a doll bed for my daughter. After that I was hooked on both doll beds and quilts. Hugs
ReplyDeleteGreat find and they look so cute with the little quilts you made for them.
ReplyDeleteLove your wonderful block.
Thanks for sharing. Carolyn :)
I love the doll beds, they really are cute with the mattress, pillows, sheets and quilts. You do a wonderful job refurbishing them and some little girls will love them. The civil war block is pretty, too. I've been following along reading the blog but have not started making the blocks yet. I may get to them, we will see. I do like learning history this way, much more interesting than my history class was!
ReplyDeleteThose doll beds look like something I had when I was a kid;) You did very well on fixing them proper for new baby dolls;)
ReplyDeleteWill check out that info on that block...I've made that one before, but never paid attention to any historical info;)
Happy Quilting!!
How cute! Love the doll beds. I see you're making the CW blocks, too. I'm up to date except for the one for this week. It's fun to check out the blog each week!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! I love that the mattresses are ticking, though I wonder if little girls today know to associate that fabric with mattresses of old?
ReplyDeleteYou have such good luck finding doll beds. All I ever see are in antique stores and lots of money. But then, I seldom go to garage sales.
ReplyDeleteYou may have to add a room to store all those cute doll beds you are collecting! *wink* The little quilts and bed clothes are precious. I love the pinks in your Civil War block. I should have chosen those colors! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great bargain! You dressed it up so cute! Love your CW block too - especially the center piece. Jenn
