PALMATEER POINT QUILT-A-LONG

I just finished this small Palmateer Point quilt-a-long that Lori of Humble Quilts organized.  I love the way it came out!  Thanks, Lori!

Palmateer Point

As you may know, I love garage/estate sales.  I got the printed sayings from one such sale and have made a couple little quilts.  I already sold one of them and I made this one with some left over bow tie blocks from a block exchange.  I had used most of the bow tie blocks in a couple wall hangings. and these 8 worked perfect for this one.  It can either be a wall hanging or a place mat.

Saturday I was looking for some Christmas fabric panels and couldn't find them, so I decided I needed to organize my fabric closet.  It used to have fabric separated by color, but was a big jumble of mixed up fabric, so I took everything out and re-stacked it.  I also am taking some fabric to donate.  I need to get busy and make some scrap quilts with all the scraps that I have.  Between that and getting ready for Christmas and a trip, I will be very busy for the next 7 1/2 weeks!  Guess where I found my Christmas fabric?  ........yes, it was in the bin of Christmas/flannel fabric where it belonged!  I just didn't dig deep enough.  It's just as well that I spent some time getting better organized.

DESIGN WALL AND SCRAPS

I found these two little bow tie blocks when I was digging around in a bin.  I'm pretty sure that Barb sent them with the bow tie swap last fall.  They are so cute that I decided to make a doll quilt using them and more that I'm making.  The will measure 2" finished.

 Here is what I have so far.  I have 32 and I'm not sure how many I will need - I need to decide exactly how big I will make the doll quilt.  I think they'll make a cute quilt.

I'm also making some pink and brown HST doll quilts.  The HST blocks on top  finish at 1 1/2" and the HST blocks on the lower quilt finish at 1 1/4"  Once I got started, I just couldn't stop!

Several months ago a friend from my quilt guild asked us to collect the scraps we get from trimming blocks because she uses them to make doggie beds for a shelter.  So I decided to start saving them.  I've been doing it since around Christmas and I forgot to take them to our last meeting.

This bag is almost totally full of trimmings.  I save just about everything that's usable and these are less than 1".

I decided to weigh the bag and it weighs 1 lb. 9 1/2 oz!  One yard of fabric weighs about 6 oz. and costs about $11.

That means that this bag of scraps is worth about $46.75!  Yikes!!  I'm glad that someone will be able to use the scraps instead of just throwing them away!  Do any of you save these and what do you do with them?

NEW BOM, A FINISH AND DESIGN WALL

When I saw Barbara Brackman's new BOM, I had to join in.  It's only one block per month!  And she is adding lots of history about wagon trains going west - one of my favorite topics.  I love to read about the "Westering Women!"  Here is the first block.

Independence Square

I showed this quilt in December when it was just a top.  Now it's finished and will be donated to a child in the hospital.  I am demonstrating how to make the ten minute block at my guild today and this is the sample to show how it looks when put together,

When I was looking for backing I cam across this "cat" fabric in my closet.  The colors were perfect, but it wasn't quite enough.  That was easily fixed by surrounding it with this coral colored fabric.  I probably got the cat fabric at a garage sale.  The fabrics for the top of the quilt were from Good Will.

It was fun quilting the top with the squiggly lines.  Some of the quilting thread was variegated.  The purple shows up at dark blue in the photo.  I didn't really put 3 squares of blue together.

In September I participated in a "bow tie" block exchange and had been trying to decide how to use them.  Yesterday I saw the eagle block (found at a garage sale as well a few years ago) in my closet and when I put it up on my design wall with some of the bow tie blocks, I knew it was what I wanted.  It has to fit on a particular quilt hanger which is 29" wide and with 7 blocks across it comes to 28".  It's not all sewn together yet, but that shouldn't take long.  It will be nice to have another patriotic wall hanging for July 4th!

MORE DEAR JANE BLOCKS - THIS TIME FOR SEPTEMBER!

While I was on a roll (kind of) with the Dear Jane blocks, I decided to keep going for a while.  I finished Row D and made 3 blocks in Row E.  I might make a few more before I put that bin away for a while.  I want to do a couple more first.

In between doing this, I have been quilting on my log cabin quilt and I started working on some fall wool appliqué.

Saturday, my neighbor and I are going to a quilt show in Philomath, OR and will visit at least one quilt shop on the way home.  I'm sure I'll have pictures to share from that.

Half of the bow tie blocks needed for the block swap with Fun With Quilts are finished.  Sorry the photo is so bad.  I plan to finish these and get them mailed next week.

The leaves are beginning to change as our temps are getting into the 40s some nights.  We're having a few warm days now, but the cooler days are coming!  Yea!  Have a good weekend!
