QUILT OF VALOR TOP

I've been wanting to make a Quilt of Valor and when I saw this quilt of valor pattern on someone's blog and decided it might be a good one to make.  The top is finished as of yesterday.

There is one basic block that measures 8 1/2" and it's very easy to make.  The strips are cut to 2 1/2" and then submit to 2 1/2", 4 1/2" and 6 1/2".  A dark blue and light HST and a brown and light HST are in opposite corners.

When you sew 4 of these together with the blue in the middle, you get a 16" block with a blue pinwheel in the middle.

Put together into 4 blocks wide and 5 blocks long,  it comes out to 64" x 80" which is within the correct size for a QOV.  A friend of mine goes to the QOV meetings every month and she said she will take it in for me when I get it finished, which I plan to do this month.

I'm also working on my Dear Jane blocks for January - Row H.  Thanks for visiting!

Happy New Year, Ruth! I love this QOV. I made one for my son who just returned from deployment a week ago today. It is a Fon's & Porter pattern but it still needs to be quilted. Thanks for the details on your quilt...I need to try this one, too.

Fascinating how a design forms such a great secondary pattern that almost obscures the original block. Very nice job, Ruth!

It looks great, much more complicated than the single block. I love how blocks go together with a whole new look. Someone will love it!

That's just terrific. I think I've seen the pattern in AP&Q or perhaps it's a Kim Brackett design. A group here, inspired by QOV, has started Aussie Quilt Heroes. I'll have something to share about that soon.

I love how this block comes together into something that looks incredibly complex. Beautiful QOV! Thanks for sharing that block design.

What a beautiful quilt! I think I've seen the pattern before, but your explanation makes it look so easy. And I had no idea there were QOV meetings? My guild donates quilts to the local VA hospital and I think it's about the same, just perhaps with less flourish than the QOV program? Some lucky person is going to love it, I'm sure.
