Here we are at the end of 2013!  I need to show a couple items that I gave for Christmas gifts.  This table runner was made for my DIL.  She wanted a whig rose in the middle and then something reproduced from Frank Lloyd Wright's windows on each side (she majored in architecture).  I did my best, but couldn't really reproduce the window exactly due to size limitations.

Close up of the center.  I did do a little more quilting on it after taking this picture.

Some of you have seen this quilt from my "Secret" blog.  I made 2 of these quilts and gave them the name of "The Eagle."  Here is a picture of me with DS#3 (we spent Christmas with him and his family).

A picture of the whole quilt is below.  The quilt is a partial reproduction of the "Lindy" quilt which was made in 1930 to commemorate Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927.  Two of my sons are pilots, so when I first saw this quilt several years ago, I wanted to make it for them.  The alternating blocks have an eagle embroidered on them.  The quilt appears in "Word Play Quilts" by Tonya Ricucci.  I would never been able to piece the words without that book.

BTW, I won the blue ribbon at my September guild meeting for the President's challenge of making a two color quilt.

We spent a week with DS#3 and family.  Here are a few more pictures of the boys.  Jonah got this scooter for Christmas.

Eli's chore is to set the table for supper.

Two sweet boys with their bikes.  Eli received his bike for Christmas.

Here is something that I received for Christmas!  I have been thinking about this quilt for several years and I plan to get started on it.  I hope to join a group for encouragement.  Of course I still have several UFOs that I need to finish.  I need to review my list from January to see how I did and will report in another post.

Happy New Year, everyone!  I will be looking forward to seeing what you plan to work on next year.

  1. Happy New Year Ruth!
I absolutely love your airplane quilt. The military alphabet is over the top wonderful. Looks like you've been having a great time.

  2. The table runner is beautiful, it turned out really great! The airplane quilts for your sons are wonderful, too. Even with the book I would have thought twice about the alphabet, you did a great job. Congratulations on the blue ribbon! Your grandsons are as cute as ever, I bet they were fun on Christmas. Happy New Year!

  3. OH, good luck on your Dear Jane quilt, it will be a beautiful quilt. It is too big a commitment for me right now. Are you joining Kathleen Tracy's Yahoo group? Lots of people are working together to encourage each other. I look forward to watching your progress.

  4. Oh My….swooning over your DIL table runner!!! LOVE the colors!!

I have seen this airplane quilt in one of my quilty books featuring older vintage quilts. I have always admired the lettering around the edges AND you have done " 2 " of them……clapping!! clapping!

  5. My, oh my! What treasures you have created for your DIL and both sons! You've had a very successful year of quilting in 2013! I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be quilting in 2014; no doubt there will be more of your special creations! HAPPY NEW YEAR! ---"Love

  6. I think you did a beautiful job on the runner for your DIL! I love it!
And what a perfect quilt for your pilot sons. I have that book, but I have as yet to attempt any lettering on my quilts.
I'll enjoy watching your Dear Jane take shape. I have the book, but have done nothing with it. I sense a pattern here. : )
    Happy New Year, Ruth!

  7. Happy New Year! Fabulous projects as always. So much thought and care taken in your choice of design. I hope you enjoy making your Dear Jane (I'm sure you will). The grandboys are adorable and growing up fast.

  8. The quilt with the planes and alphabet is wonderful! - and the gold on cream is perfect.

  9. Happy New year!
The runner is beautiful and the quilting is wow. The airplane quilt is beautiful. I bet you had happy pilots when they saw these.
Jonah and Eli are getting so big.It doesn't seem possible that baby Eli is setting the table and riding his new bike. They are such handsome little men now.

  10. Love how your FLW turned out! I'm trying to decide if I want to show it to my mom - if I show her, she will want one!

  11. Happy New Year! The runner and plane quilt are both lovely and I'm sure will be treasured. Oh my, a Dear Jane! I don't have the gumption to start one of those. I'll just enjoy watching the progress on your blog.

  12. The Lindy quilt looks great. Good luck with starting a DJ, you are more adventuresome than me! Happy new year.
