RETREAT ON THE COAST

Last Friday I went on a retreat with my church to Lincoln City, Oregon on the Pacific Coast.  On the way there, we stopped for lunch at the Otis Cafe, in Otis, OR.  It's a tiny "hole in the wall" place that has become quite famous for their delicious and generous meals.  We stuffed ourselves with yummy food and continued on to the retreat.

Saturday turned out to be a pretty nice day and we were able to get out to walk on the beach for a little while.  The ocean waves are so amazing to me - a girl who grew up in the mid-west.  During our song fest times we could look out the window at the ocean and the words of one of the songs we sang were very meaningful:

Filled with wonder,
Awestruck wonder,
At the mention of Your Name.
Jesus, Your Name is power.

Clothed in rainbows of living color,
Flashes of lightning,
Rolls of thunder.

Me on the beach
This is the house I stayed in and there was another one just like it, plus a small house.  I think there were 60 women all together, some coming just for Saturday.  We live about an hour from the coast.

I've been busy since I came home.  One thing I've been doing is making a cape for my grandson, who is in 2nd grade.  He needs to dress up like the Pronoun super hero.  My part is to make the orange cape.  It's almost finished, so I can get it in the mail later today.  They didn't have any "fun" methods to teach grammar when I was in school.  Here's the link to the grammar site if you are interested.

Thanks for visiting my blog!  Have a great weekend.

WEEKEND AT THE RAINY COAST

This past weekend I went to the coast for a women's retreat from my church.  While we had been having sunny weather for at least a week, it rained the whole weekend!  But I am still amazed when I see the ocean!  We were at Lincoln City, Oregon and the Pacific Ocean was just across the street from where we stayed in this house.  My room was on the second floor and I had access to the porch on the corner from the room!

This is the picture I took from the room when we arrived.  On Saturday, it was even foggier and the rain didn't let up at all.  Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time.  It's good to get away for a couple days to relax, enjoy God's creation and relax with other women of like mind.

Saturday afternoon we had some free time, so I decided to go for a walk.  The rain was coming down, but not really hard, so I put on a rain hat and walked out towards the beach.  When I found the path to the beach, I slipped in some mud and fell partially down.  Here's a picture of my pants.

The ground was soft, so no injury happened.  I walked around more carefully and didn't spend too much time outside, but it did feel good to get outside.

Last week I started quilting on "Faithful" and am finally just about to finish it!

Uh Oh!  When I turned it over, look what I had quilted onto the back!  Too much stuff on my sewing table.  It's off now and yesterday I finished quilting "Faithful!"  Yea!  I'll sew on the binding today.

RETREAT!!

Last week I found out there was an opening at my guild retreat and I decided to go at the last minute.  I picked up another member of our guild and we arrived in time for lunch on Friday.  I had been at the  retreat center before, but it had been a few years.  It is an ideal place.  There are about 10 bedrooms with 4 beds in each room and I think there are about 6 bathrooms.

This is the bedroom I stayed in.

A quilt on every bed!

Quilts hanging on the walls in the hallway that leads to the work room.

This is one of the quilts I worked on - Everyday Best by Becky Goldsmith
It was published in a 2006 issue of Quilting and originally published in Quilts with a Spin 2005.

Work room.  Plenty of design walls and plug outlets.

Even a store with lots of fabric!

Below are some of the quilts that other people were working on.  Lots of paper piecing was going on!

Lots of gorgeous quilts being made.

Lots of Stack n Whack quilts too!

I had a great time and made some headway on a few projects which I hope will be finished soon.  Two days away was good and it was good to get home too.

Have a great week everyone!
