MARCH SCRAP REPORT

The challenge for March was to make a strip quilt.  I have oodles of strips saved and need to use them up, so I thought this would be a good idea.  I already had 32 strip blocks done and I made 61 more for a total of 93.  As you can see in the photo, I make blocks according to color.  I haven't put the top together yet, but will sew it together in rows of colors.  I've made this type before and I really like how it turns out.  I have 9 colors and I usually have 8 blocks per row.  They measure 7 1/2" finished, so the finished quilt will measure 60" x 67 1/2" and might add a border to it.

My scrap challenge for April is to work on a scrappy quilt for my granddaughter.  I have already started it and it's a Bonnie Hunter design - Bowdacious.  April will be a busy month, so I might not get much accomplished.

I also decided to add an additional row to the side and bottom of this scrap quilt top that I made in January.

I still have more triangles to sew together as leader/enders for another future quilt like this one.

In addition, I made 2 sets of place mats to sell in a craft show coming up April 7.  The photos are wonky, but they look better in person.

Happy Easter, everyone!

3 PROJECTS FINISHED AND BLOCK SWAP

I have definitely been busy this week and want to show you some of my finishes.  This first one was kind of fun.  My neighbor (also walking and craft show partner) and I will be participating in more craft shows this year.  She has been sewing up a storm and I have too.  I got an idea in the middle of the night and here is the first one that I made.  The Route 66 wall hanging - for men.  We'll see if anyone wants to buy it.  The sign is hand embroidered.

Place mats are a popular item, so I made a set of four "chicken" themed place mats and have other fabrics set aside for more.

A year or so ago I bought this panel at a quilt show and finally put it together and quilted it.  I like how it turned out and am considering sewing beads on the wreath (not real excited about doing it though).

Here's the back.

Close up of the quilting.  You can't really see the quilting on the large snow flakes, but I quilted over the design in gold thread.  The rest of the quilting is with red thread.

Yesterday I finished the churn dash swap blocks that Barb has organized.   I made 44 pink blocks and 22 black blocks.  I only have 1 black one in the picture because I had already put the batch of 22 in a baggie.

Here's a close up that shows the fabric better.  I'm glad I didn't run out of the pink fabric.  I bought one yard and just barely had enough to make the 44 6 1/2" blocks!  I think this is the 4th block swap that I have done with Barb and I still haven't made anything with 2 of the other swaps.

I love churn dash blocks!  Are any of you participating?  Thanks, Barb, for organizing this!  Have a great weekend everyone.  Try to squeeze in some sewing.

A BIRTHDAY PARTY AND SEWING IN A CONDO

Yesterday we celebrated our granddaughter's 9th birthday with a party at the "Sky Zone."  Abby had 4 guests there along with parents, grandparents (us) and my sister (great aunt).

Making a wish.

Cute, but tired, friends!

I have done some more sewing since we arrived in Pensacola.  First, I finished the table runner and place mats for my DIL in Kansas.

The table runner has 4 sections and on each end there is a part that will hang down on either end of the table with 3 smaller sections.

I made 6 place mats - with no batting in them - that's the way she wanted them.

Then, in my spare time (mostly early in the morning) I continued working on some projects that I had brought with me.

I had decided I wanted to make a table runner with some log cabin blocks that measure 5 1/4", so I started on those.

I also made some more of these 13 1/2" sawtooth star blocks out of scrappy pieces and 5" charm pack left-overs.

Have you ever had a picture taken with a pelican?  I did today!

Happy New Year everyone!  I probably won't post again until 2018 and then I will try to have a list of my 12 scrappy projects that I will do to try to use up at least some of my scraps.  See confessions of a fabric addict.

MODA BLOCK, ETC.

I have been very slack when it comes to blogging lately.  But I wanted to let you know that I've been doing a lot of sewing.  This is Block #5 of the Moda Block Heads block of the week.  It looks large in the photo, but is only 6 1/2" square.  I'm out of the background fabric now, but my LQS is supposed to get it in this week.  That's why I don't have Block #6 finished yet.  I need the light colored background fabric as shown in each corner block and the middle.  There are 58 pieces in this block!!!

These are 2 table runners I'm making out of a couple charm packs and they are ready to baste.  Each HST block measures 4 1/2", so it will only be 12" wide and 48" long.

I "had" to make some placemats with Joanne Kerton's free placemat pattern found here.  I found this Mary Engelbreit fabric in my stash and thought they would be cute.  I love how they turned out!  They still need more quilting on them, but I haven't decided yet how I will do it.  Thanks, Joanne!  If you want to get the pattern, click on the link and then scroll down to where it says a "few free patterns" and click on that, then scroll down again until you see this placemat pattern.

Happy Spring and Happy Quilting!
