SOME NON-QUILTY SEWING

Sunday afternoon I went to the Dallas Quilt Show and while I did take some pictures, I'm only posting one of them.  There was a big sign saying that we can take pictures, but need to get permission from the quilt maker in order to post them on the internet.  I wouldn't know how to contact the quilt makers, so you are out of luck there.

While at the quilt show I ran into Karen, the president of my guild and we walked around for a while together.  She is an amazing quilter and has been a member of the guild for longer than me - I've been a member for about 15 years!

The one quilt that I am posting is legal because I actually made some of these blocks for this quilt as a member of the Creative Quilter's Guild of Ellis County.  I sometimes join that guild, but don't go to very many meetings.  My long time guild takes precedence.  Anyway, this quilt (the picture doesn't show all of the border which has some applique on opposite corners) is their raffle quilt for this year.

My non-quilty sewing consisted of making a dress for Abby and her doll, Lulu.  Each dress has a gingham slip under it which "shows" beneath the dress. I spent 2 full days, plus some more time working on these dresses.

Then I decided I better get these bow ties made for my oldest grandson, who likes to wear bow ties.  I had gotten some silk fabric at a fabric outlet and had already sent him the red one (before Christmas), but just hadn't gotten around to making these two.  They don't take any time at all, so I don't know why I didn't make them sooner.

I thought he might like to wear the green tie for St. Patrick's day - maybe?

Today, I'm planning to baste my civil war quilt.  I want to get that one finished soon.

THE SHORT LIST

Carolyn at Lakeside quilting posted a short list about projects she needs to finish in the next month or so and somehow I got hooked into making a short list also!  I don't know how that happened.

1.  Doll clothes for Abigail.  Here is the dress I made yesterday.  I also made some flannel pajamas, but they aren't quite finished yet.  Plan to make (maybe) 2 more dresses.

2.  Gail Pan's Christmas Wish BOM from 2009.  Yes, the embroidery has been finished for 3 years, so I guess it's about time to put this together.  Here are 6 of the 9 blocks auditioning the sashing fabric.  I think I can get this finished soon.

3.  Christmas ornaments.  I finished one for Abigail and am working on Jonah's (they both get a cross stitched penguin).  Eli will get a cross stitched Santa.  The rest will be little quilt blocks in red and white.  Not sure how many I will make yet.

4.  Quilt 2 donation quilts to take to December guild meeting.

5.  Batik fish for Eli and Jonah (stuffed).

6.  Finish appliqué (machine) top for DIL.

7.  Quilt lap quilt made out of Australian fabric.

If I think up any more things to make for gifts, this list will need to be revised.

I showed parts of this doll in a previous post and now she is finished except for adding yarn hair and finishing her green apron and bonnet (I'm looking for the right color green ribbon).  Here's a picture of her before I sewed on her head.
I got her from Keepsake Quilting.  There were 3 printed panels.

I bought this chair for 75 cents at a garage sale and needed a doll to sit in it.

Miss Malinda Dalton, Born 1835 in Virginia - she works as a maid for a landowner.

Do you have a short list?

AN OLD DOLL AND CHRISTENING DRESS

Last week, when I needed a break from quilting, I decided to wash and iron the doll dress for this doll as well as the christening dress that I have.  I think this was my Mom's doll, although it may have belonged to her sister.  It's only 10" long and has a porcelain head, but the body is something else - maybe paper macho.  I have shown it before in a little doll bed.

This is the slip she wears.

The back of the slip with hand sewn buttonholes.

A better look at one of the buttonholes.

My grandmother must have sewn the clothes.

It's possible that this doll belonged to my Mom's sister,  Cora, who died on June 16, 1912 from scarlet fever.  I didn't realize that it was 100 years ago this year.  My Mom was one year old at that time.  Mom said that she loved to play with dolls and did so until she was about 13.

This christening dress was found in my Mom's stuff and we can only assume it was worn by her and possibly all her brothers and sisters.  I finally got it washed and ironed.

I got this vintage hangar last year at a flea market.

I'm going to finish my king size quilt today.  All that is left is a 2" outer border that needs quilting.  I finished the binding last night !!  Yea!!  I'll take a picture and post it tomorrow.
