ELLIS COUNTY (TX) QUILT SHOW

When I entered two quilts in the quilt show, I didn't expect to win a ribbon, so I was very excited to see that I won two ribbons!! On this charm quilt, which I hand pieced and hand quilted, I won a second place ribbon as well as a "Merit Hand Quilting" ribbon.
My Polka Dot Girls quilt won a blue ribbon!! I named it "Garden Party."
Here are a few other quilts that I really liked. This one was made by members of the Cedar Hill Quilters Guild (that I belong to) for the president of the guild when she got married. It's made of all batiks and is gorgeous!
I thought this was a darling baby quilt.
A lovely star quilt made of reproduction fabrics.
The colors didn't come out very good on this one, but it was amazing.
In the mean time, I have been putting my string blocks together...
And I made over 200 HSTs (half square triangles) for the flag quilt that I've been wanting to make (and another project). I can't let Theri put me to shame on the flag quilt. Hee Hee! I decided I HAD to go ahead with it and not wait. My sewing machine has been buzzing all week!
Try to keep cool!

PATRIOTIC WALL HANGING

It's been a while since I posted, but I have been busy. I just finished 2 of these wall hangings with DS#3's picture on it. It is the first time I have done a printed picture on a quilt. DS is going to be deployed to the middle east in April and I made one of these for us and one for my DIL.I'm making some progress on my tumbler charm quilt. I don't know how big I'm going to make it, but I hung in on my new design wall (which isn't very big, but better than nothing) and I really love it! It helps to see it all at once. I am hand stitching these reproduction blocks together. It measures about 33" wide and 37" high now and I still have a lot of pieces cut out.
I noticed that I stitched the left piece on the second to last row on the wrong way - but I will fix that.
OOPS!  Someone pointed out to me that the bottom 4 rows don't have the dark and light colors alternating.  I just wasn't watching close enough when I put them up on the design wall.  They aren't sewn together yet, so I just need to flip two of them around.  Tee Hee Hee!!  (It looks better now).

Here's the next to last block of the Noah's ark BOM. The ark just came out, so I will get started on that soon. Go here to get the patterns.
These are my leader & enders scrap blocks that I have been doing for quite a while. One of these days I will put them together. It will be my first all scraps quilt.
I hope you noticed the vintage valentines on my lead picture! These are all valentines that my mother saved from her childhood and they date to around 1911- 1915. Except for the one "to my wife" - that one was from my Dad to my Mom. I don't know the year, but they got married in 1935 and it could have been any time from then up to the 50's sometime. These certainly are treasures in my mind.

CHRISTMAS QUILT; TRADE FROM TASMANIA

I found a blog friend in Tasmania, Australia and we traded some fabric.  Below is some of what   received from Leanna in exchange for some fabric from me.   I plan to use the charm squares in a tumbler charm quilt.  It still amazes me that we find friends on the other side of the world by blogging.  It is so fun!
Here are some of the other charm squares I have collected for the tumbler charm quilt.  I will be using mostly reproduction fabrics - or fabrics that can pass for reproduction types, Tee Hee.  I will be hand piecing it, so needless to say, this will be a long term project.  No deadline here!
Here is one of the finished doll quilts that I made last week.  I sold one to a friend at work and she was real happy with it.  I hope to sell this one (if not, I will give it away).  The pillow is kind of strange (long & skinny), but I had some blocks left over and this is how it turned out.

I have been wanting a Christmas quilt, so I decided to use these charm squares to make a lap quilt for us.  It's a really fast project.
I'm kind of addicted to charm squares!
I found another charm pack of  Christmas fabrics and I think I will make this one with alternating fabrics, such as the ones I laid out below.  We'll see if I get this finished in time to give as a gift.
The LQS is having a sale - 40% off everything in the store!!!  I went there yesterday and plan to go back today.  The store will be changing hands the first of the year, so the owner is trying to clear out the inventory.  I love it!!!
