YAMHILL COUNTY FAIR

Yesterday I went to the Yamhill County Fair in McMinnville, Oregon (where I live).  I had entered 2 wall hangings and wanted to see them plus whatever else was there.

I won a 3rd place ribbon for this one (the Merry Christmas wall hanging).

I won a blue ribbon and Best of Show for this one!
Do you believe that these next 2 pictures show all the quilts that were entered in the fair this year?  I was kind of shocked!  There aren't usually a lot more than these, but this is the least I have seen in the last 5 years.  Probably one reason is that they don't really have a very good system for displaying them so you can see the whole quilt.  Too bad.

A friend of mine entered this gourd and won a blue ribbon.

The wolves are on the back of the same gourd.

There were a lot of gourds and I like seeing them.  Here are a few more.

It's fun to see the animals.

This pig is really PINK!! (as it should be)

The state fair is held in Salem which isn't too far away, so I'm thinking about entering a different quilt in that fair.  Do any of my readers enter their quilts in their state fair?  Also, do you enter the same quilt in several different fairs or shows?

BASTING, QUILTING AND AN AWARD!

I hadn't given it any thought whatsoever, but a pregnant friend from my quilt guild asked if I would take her quilt to the Yamhill County Fair for her as her baby was due at the same time and she thought she might be busy!  Well, I decided to enter my Baskets of Blue since I was going there anyway.  It won First Place in the category of appliqué by one person and the Best of Show ribbon!  What a nice surprise!

This week I got busy and basted a couple wall hangings.  The "Oak Leaves and Turkey Feathers" is one that I started a few years ago and I wanted to get it finished for fall so I could have it as "Fall" decor.  Yesterday I started quilting it.  It is quite big - it just about covered the whole top of my king size bed, but I didn't measure it.

I also basted my round robin from last year and want to get it finished so I can take it to my guild meeting in September.  We have been off for the summer and I plan to hang both of these quilts in the "Treasusres in the Attic" show at the Yamhill County Heritage Museum in September.

This is my first round robin and I have decided that I will do it again this year (after having decided not to do it again).  I think I'm a glutton for punishment!  They can be fun, but they can also be very frustrating - trying to come up with a border for a different RR every month!  Why do I do this?

INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVAL IN HOUSTON

I had always wanted to go to the International Quilt Festival in Houston, but it never seemed to work out, but THIS YEAR, I decided to make it happen.  I signed up for a bus (same day) trip for this weekend. I left the house about 5:45 AM and got home at 9:15 PM.  We arrived at the convention center about 10:10 AM and had until 4:00 PM to see everything.

I got the pink bag along with my ticket and a show pin along with the price I paid for the bus ride.  The first few pictures are the things I bought from vendors.

Some fabrics from Primitive Gatherings.

A Buggy Barn Calendar, new quilting gloves and a pattern.

Thera-Glove (support hose for your hands).  Maybe these will help with the tingling and numbness.
OK.  Now on to the quilts!  First of all, the "BEST OF SHOW" Quilt.  I don't know if you can read the description in the picture under the quilt, but it was based on a picture taken at the Dallas Arboretum last December.  We saw this boat when we went there with some friends!

I hope you enjoy seeing some of the quilts that I liked best.  I didn't always take a picture of the description because I couldn't always get a good view of it.  Sorry about that.

Universal Ties

The 16-patches were bought in an antique shop and I love how  this was put together.

A Petite Heirloom

The original baby quilt
I really liked this old baby quilt and the reproduction of it above.  It is the kind of thing that is fun to do.  \

I will post more amazing quilt pictures tomorrow.
