HUMBLE QUILTS COMES TO McMINNVILLE, OR

Yesterday, Lori from Humble Quilts came to give a presentation on seasonal quilts at my quilt guild, Piecemakers, in McMinnville, OR!  We were thrilled to have her there!

Lori DeJarnatt
I first became acquainted with Lori through blogging, probably followed a link from someone else's blog and this was about around 2009 or so.  I arranged to meet her in 2010 when we were visiting my BIL, who lives close to her.  I also have seen her a couple times at the Sisters Quilt Show and at Aurora Colony in Aurora, OR.

Lori explained why her blog is called Humble Quilts - it's because she loves antique quilts and especially loves how women "made do" with what they had, which meant that they had to use different fabrics because they ran out of the one they were using or a panel was too long, so they just chopped it off in the middle of a block, etc.  Mistakes were left in giving it more character and you don't have to be ashamed of them.

Her trunk show was awesome as you will see below:

Made to commemorate her trip to Denmark

She got the pattern from American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine

Flags of the American Revolution designed by Jan Patek (I'm making one of these)

Panel of George Washington was a gift from a friend.

The back of George Washington's quilt has a Martha Washington block on it.

Lori designed this Jubilee quilt for her 50th birthday.
Doesn't this just make you want to get busy sewing?  It does for me.  Lori had a story behind each quilt and some of the pictures didn't turn out, so I couldn't post them - there were quite a few more than this.  I'm trying to decide which one is my favorite, but would have to pick at least 5 or 6 "favorites."

Another bonus was some visitors that came, two of whom told me that they follow my blog!  One of them even won a giveaway I had a while back!  It was such a treat to meet them!  One visitor came from Pendleton, OR!

Thank you so much, Lori!

COULDN'T RESIST!

Lori from Humble Quilts is having a QAL aka quilt-a-long.   I tried for a couple minutes to resist it, but I've done so many of her QALs that it didn't really take too long to decide to do it.  After I saw the first step and how easy it was, plus it's only 24" square,  I figured I could squeeze it in.  Some of her QALs are my very favorite little quilts, after all.  I haven't done any of her bigger QALs.

Here's the first step.  Cut some squares.

Next, sew most of them into 4-patches.  Very easy!

The next step is some HSTs.  I'll get to them next week.

Have a great weekend ladies!

CASCADIA LINKY PARTY

Time to link my blog to Lori's where everyone is sharing their Cascadia doll quilts!  This was so much fun to make.  For one thing, I already had a bunch of 4-patches that I could use as well as strips and 1 1/2" squares of reproductions in a basket.

This picture shows the backing.

Right now, it is living on the back of this chair in our living room.

Go to Humble Quilts to see more!  Thanks, Lori!

LOOK WHAT'S ON DESIGN WALL

Lori at Humble Quilts is having a QAL (quilt along) and I told her I would participate.  Yesterday I finished a few projects, and she posted the last episode.  It's a small quilt named "Cascadia."

I got out my little basket piled with 1 1/2" strips and squares as well as a bunch of 4-patches and 9-patches.  I used some of the 4-patches for the 2 outer strips and the 4 piece wide strip in the middle

This morning, I made the 2 on point strips and it is now on my design wall waiting to be sewn together, layered, quilted and bound.  That will probably happen after Thanksgiving.

I love it!  Oh, it looks like I will need to take off one row of the edges and middle sections to match the on point parts.  Did you join in?  At least this one is small and can fit into a busy schedule during the holidays.  I haven't decided about Bonnie's mystery quilt yet.  I rather doubt I will participate in that one.

Now, I need to go bake pies and make a salad for tomorrow.  Happy Thanksgiving!
